Rattling when clutching in
I have a z4m and ever since I purchased the car I noticed that when driving slowly in 1st or 2nd when I clutch in I hear this rattling sound. Wanted to see if it is a problem before I bring it in to the dealer.

Is there a certain way that I have to shift to not have that rattle? I tried to pinpoint where the rattle is coming from and it doesn't seem like it is from the front.

Hahah, this was on my list of things to search about but I was thinking it was normal. Glad to hear it is. I heard this on an M3 I test drove and asked my BMW tech buddy and he said this was normal for the M3 differential cause of the clutches in the diff. At first I thought my motor mounts were about to break One less thing to worry about.

This is a "feature" of the dual mass clutch in the ///Ms. It's normal and standard and nothing you can do (short of never releasing the clutch when slow and under any load) will quiet it.

It's the throw-out bearing rattling/moving a bit when the car's not in gear or the throw-out bearing isn't depressed by the clutch fork. I actually LIKE the sound. It's very typical of older lightweight Bimmers and Porsches, and it reminds me of how cars that have soul SHOULD sound.
