Shift Knob Question

Hi there,

Just received an '05 Z4 3.0 6 speed. Great car and I'm enjoying it a lot!

I had a quick question for you experts -- my 6sp shift knob (factory) seems to rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise on the shift stalk. Is that normal? I have a '00 M5 and the knob does not rotate at all. I wasn't sure if something was broken or if this is normal behavoir.

Hopefully my question makes sense!

Thanks,

Chris

I think he meant "you CANT rotate them" The stock shift knob has a tab at the top inside that fits into a slot on the shaft that keeps it from turning. If yours turns, it either isnt all the way down, or its broken.

Thank you, thats what I figured (I'd never seen a shift knob on a manual that was supposed to rotate, but I figured I'd ask!). This knob rotates to about the 11 and 1 o'clock positions, so it's definitely loose. Hopefully it's just the knob and not something more complicated.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Just wanted to follow up -- I took the shift knob off today and found out the knob itself is busted. I've never seen a shift knob broken before, but that was causing the knob to rotate on the shaft.

At least its an easy fix!
