Tunes

I am 99% sure I will be getting an ESS tune in the near future, but has anyone tried the Active Autowerke one? It's only $499 and says all the right things. Did a search but didn't come up w/much.

Opinions?

I had the Powerchip and the ESS both on my last M. Going with Bren tuning on this one. Sounds really good.

How 'bout this. If two others are willing to partially fund me, I can do the "after" dyno. And if the results are decent, then I will pay you guys back

Sounds good Lon, make sure to get it done locally (ie: us) .

I'll hook it up if you ever decide to go this route

So, if cracking our DME is the hard part of a FI setup, does this mean AA might be developing a FI kit?

Oh sick, I'm going to PM you right now.

edit: I hope to God I can get a custom dyno locally? That would be so sick. I'd do it right away. No joke.

Probably S/C kit yeah. I can see that happening. Totally.

The price looks way more appealing than the others though

I'm in the midst of working out a deal with JSW to get my ECU tuned and do an "after" dyno. I've already got a baseline for my car (albeit it was run without muffler cannisters), and I plan on going back to the same dyno for obvious reasons. Will start a new thread if everything turns out well

edit: might even go in as early as today to get the ECU flashed.
edit2: the ECU tune won't be ready for me until next week at the earliest.

Yeah sorry about that Lon, AA still in the final testing phase of the new software.

I'll let you know sometime next week once it's ready

Yeah hopefully it's good. Otherwise I'll be out quite a bit of money LOL.

edit: on second thought, I'm kinda scared now lol..AA's still in their beta testing stages -___-. What if my motor blows or something? AHHH!!!
imma ask JSW for a money-back guarantee first haha

I emailed them asking about rev limit, and got this response:

We maintain the stock RPM limit, however we keep the throttle open an additional 1500 RPM prior to them closing for the limiter.

???. I don't understand what they are implying here. Still limited but the throttle stays open?

I don't either, but I was hoping someone else could chime in before I ask for a clarification.

I've read that three times and I can't visualize it.

=/ they're promising me full money-back guarantee, and covering half of the "after" dyno cost for me. Apparently the tune is already done, but they're having issues transferring it over to the ECU *shrug*

I guess I still have time to think it over for now...

Basically, what this means it allows the throttle bodies to remain open longer, closer to the 8k rpm revlimit. (stock TBs closes at around 7750rpm). Also quick correction, it's a 150rpm raise, not 1500rpm.

We can also raise the actual rev limiter if anyone requests it but it is NOT RECOMMENDED.

As for the software not being ready, they are just finalizing the writing of the software into the ECU. The software itself is ready, but they are having a slight issue in regards to the ECU safeguards (that tries to prevent tuners from overwriting the software with their own). AA says it should be ready by the end of this week though.

Stay tuned Gents.

Ive heard about that issue before. It's a bitch to break that code I hear w/o an unlock code for the ecu. I think they just have to know the right people over in Europe. That's what I've heard anyway.

Thanks for clarifying! I believe ESS allows for increases up to 8400 rpm, and they're usually a pretty conservative company. Either way I'll stick with the stock 8000 rpm. I'm pretty interested in this tuning option, since it's several hundred dollars less.
