I am sure you have considered this but wouldn't you be better off selling the auto and buying a manual?

I def thought about that, I looked for cars but could not find anything that I really wanted. plus I was offered 10,000 for a trade in I would rather keep and re mod my car that I've driven since it has had 14 miles on the odometer then trade it for 10,000 and spend another 10,000 on a stock 3.0 manual I would still have to mod

^ Yeah, besides most BMW trained shops can do the swap for $1500 or so, plus the cost of the tranny which is typically about $1000-1500 on www.car-part.com
I'm about to swap my SMG for the actual 6 speed manual.
Basically they have to reprogram the computer and do some wiring mods, but its not all that hard in all reality.

sorry for the late response. It looks like the labor (rough guess) is going to be about 1100 not including parts. Im using new ltw flywheel, clutch, clutch hydraulics, and shifter. Im going to scour the internet and parts yards for everything else (btw I love car-part). I'm pretty stoked. I will def post pics and all of the info I learn as things progress. I still going back and forth on staying na or going fi

On a related note: do you know of any good parts yards? I am desperately looking for a convertible top assembly!

www.car-part.com seriously.... Go email all the vendors and ask for everything you need, I'm sure you'll find a few. I sure did for even the most specific parts.

Chris, for the swap, I just asked the local BMW community. We have a local (Calgary, Alberta, Canada based) forum with a BMW sub-section. It took a couple of days at best before I had the names and numbers of some of the best BMW techs in Calgary. You'd be honestly amazed to find that the most competent techs out there, work out of their own garage, or for a totally separate company. I later found out the Shop Foreman for this absolutely HUGE BMW dealership in Toronto is working here in Calgary for a small shop he started a few years back. Thats the place I'm going to. I wish I could help you find a great place where you live, but thats for you to do. In the very unlikely event you want to ship your car up here to get it done, I'd be happy to provide all the info you need for various repair shops.
Let me know if I can help further.

Might be a stupid question, but can a 6spd be put in the 2.5i?

Oh, sweet. Please keep the thread updated. I'd like to do the same. What options do I have with 6sp transmissions? Does it have to be from a Z4?

@whatbmw - do you still have the 6spd tranny?
