Note that those gear ratio changes are more suitable for boosted S54s since you will have more power and torque in general and can move the car easier.

1st gear will be much much more usable when dragging/lapping with much much less amount of tyre slip. it will be harder to drive around stop and start traffic though, since 1st gear will need you to slip the clutch a bit more to get the car moving.

Ofc, if the cost is as high as a brand new gearbox, opting for a samsonas dogbox would be a smarter choice, if not, you will probably need to open up your gearbox and rebuild it yourself. but hey, better to have ZF provide you the gears rather than having to fabricate them yourself.

The italia 458 has a 7 speed dual-clutch GETRAG with 6th and 7th being overdrive gears.
http://www.autoguide.com/new-cars/20...cpe/specs.html

If you drive an italia 458 someday, you will notice something very peculiar in that car which is its ability to keep pulling after gear changing in the same intensity. you don't feel any loss of power after a gear change and i believe that a boosted S54 with a V3si can achieve the same when the gear changes drop it from 8K to 6K RPM.

As you climb the power ladder in our beloved Z4M, you start to feel how the gear ratios are layed out for a civilized street friendly car, especially when most of the supercharger gains are in 2nd and 3rd gear, useless in 1st and very ordinary power gain in 4th and 5th. 6th is just the fuel saving idiot gear.

Just to link things together, if you have the grind issue, possible solution might be found in this thread, please give it a read and consider joining the GB

Vibra Technics Engine mount, specifically this post goes into some of the reasons why we might be grinding.

Of course, because it's an Italia 458. Nissan GT-R is also like this. You get what you pay for. Nothing peculiar about a dual-clutch. Just awesome.

I wasn't talking about the dual clutch feature, I was talking about how the gear ratios are layed out. Even so, I have come to appreciate what BMW did there, car pulls harder in 4-5-6 gears, as well as using a 4.10 diff will cancel 1st gear but give you a 2-3-4-5-6 that are pretty damn close, even more aggressive than a Ferrari Italian 458.
