Go RPI! I like to see a vendor stepping up for a small community.

If I could find an extra ECU so I could keep my stock ecu stock, I would buy that system you guys are promoting.

Stromung still have not called me. I have the RPI scoops, if this is done in a reasonable time with reasonable pricing (no gouging), I am in.

Ok so I got a chance to take Laidback's car out for a spin and let me tell you the exhaust is LOUD. I'm not sure if it'll be this loud for the final product but yea the sound is great and I love the way it burbles when you let off the accelerator. If they can keep the same sound but tone down the volume a lil bit then this would the perfect exhaust. I can't wait to hear it when Eloy finishes it up. Get excited guys...this exhaust is awesome!

Its these type of customers that make us want to develope products.....the right way for the cars. When we get penny pinched and squeezed for every penny, it makes it harder to operate and things get compromized.

For that very reason, all our products are made in the USA and we never low ball any of our manufacturers. When you do, most companies will start to make compromises both in the material, r&d and production quality just to make your price.

As for the exhaust, I've said it before....the stock one is not restrictive by ANY means and its going to take a lot more than hacking a muffler off or retro fitting an aftermarket muffler in place. Because of that, its going to take a LOT of work in developing a system that is going to perform better than stock.

Who cares about the exhaust! How did the car feel with the ram air and tune????

Hehe, anyways, NO WAY, will the exhaust sound like that if it goes into production. Its got to be toned down and we HAVE to tune the sound. Yes, we DO tune the sound by way of pipe angles, diameters, wall thickness, inner perforations, etc.

Haha let's just say that the tune is the next thing on the list for me to get

Here's a post from another happy customer who got the RPI scoops and custom tune from Powerchip...

I want to qualify that I do not have a sensitive butt-dyno, and don't subscribe to the placebo effect like many, lol. In fact, I'm one of the guys who didn't feel the difference of the BMI and RPI scoop at street-level speeds after it was installed on a car that already had a SS x-pipe and race muffler. However, with RPI's reputation and fully knowing that it was dyno-proven many times over on multiple cars, the scoop is a no-brainer, especially given the price.

On to the software...
Well... I can say without doubt, the software makes a significant difference. And looking at the dyno graphs, it becomes very clear why.

The M Coupe was first dyno'd with SS x-pipe and race muffler (straight-through), charcoal filter removed, and BMI filter. Hood closed, with fan on. It dyno'd 258 rwhp on the DD at RPI.

After the RPI reflash, the peak rwhp was the same. Peak tq went from ~217.5@5krpm to ~224.5 ft.lb. However, the area under the torque curve experienced a significant change.

I've never paid too much attention about peak numbers... but rather, find it far more important the shape of the curve and area underneath. Peak numbers are for dyno-racers... area under curve translates to real-world performance.

Well, from ~2k through ~7k rpm, the torque cuve definitely looked like it got a good workout... here are some data points.

numbers are approx #s of INCREASE in rwtq and rwhp:
RPM - rwtq - rwhp
2180 - 13 - 05
2620 - 16 - 08
2800 - 08 - 05
3200 - 08 - 05
3540 - 09 - 06
4220 - 07 - 05
4900 - 07 - 07
5580 - 04 - 04
6260 - 10 - 12
6390 - 12 - 13
6940 - 00 - 00

I suspect that the difference of the peak HP would be greater if the car had a stock exhaust instead of the pre-existing SS x-pipe and race muffler. I also suspect that the SS x-pipe and race muffler was well-designed for the upper RPM range, while it didn't appear to have sacraficed any low-end tq when compared to the stock setup.

The graph showed that the new software smoothed out a major dip in the stock software at between 5850~6900RPM. And remember, that's on the low-reading DD dyno with no closed-loop ecu learning time, and the RPI's ram-air not in full effect. With more closed-loop ecu time, the ecu's mappings will tighten up more, with possibly more hp/tq to be found. And based on the stock 330 HP factory rating, this car could have 355~360 when all is said and done.

The car just pulls and pulls... felt great. No wonder the new owner had a silly grin after a few highspeed runs!

Stephen

I think that all these wrhp gains are wonderful in the fact that everyone that has it done to their car can instantly tell such a big difference in the way their car drives. Butt dyno's are wonderful! Shoot, some electronics, some breathing and some exaust and my Z is faster than an M for a 1/4 the price.

When is someone with these wrhp gains going to do some certified timed speed before and after runs? How about it?

I agree that the results are impressive. I don't quite get what you mean about the z faster than the M though? I probably just misunderstand what you mean...not enough coffee this morning

Did some short runs in an abandoned road ...did it on 2nd gear on Zeddy4me (RPI Ram air scoops, AFE intake and stromung exhaust) and me (RPI RAM AIR SCOOPS WITH POWERCHIP SOFTWARE) from 2nd gear, with him half a car lengths ahead from the start i pulled half a car length at the end of second gear (which means 1 car length by the end of second gear; if we started both at the same spot btw both with passengers)...the runs were very short stop light to stop light, but we did a dead stop run 0-60 and i mis shifted (my bad and i think age is catching up lol), would like to do 2nd or third gear till 4/6th gear next time...and again with another Z4M roadster stock (driver but no passenger) and me with a passenger starting from 60 on third gear till 4th the Z4MC with RPI SCOOPS AND SOFTWARE pulled atleast 1 1/2 car length but again too short of a run. All the runs from mho are too short even if i all pulled away as there is not enough room to really take it to all the gears ...this are just some friendly run that we did while on Mexico... hopefully we can do further testing soon

granted laidback dropped the clutch in 2nd gear and I let the rpms die in 2nd and just mashed the pedal ( lug lug )...

very inconclusive run... we need to do it again several times to get some better results...

Yeah, the 0-60 dead stop run, I saw you disappear too quick in my side mirror... I knew there was something wrong, hehehe....

Guys, I did drive the car and driveability is excellent, like laidback said, no bunny hop and just smooth power delivery... did feel a bit more torque too...

LETS DO IT AGAIN!! soon....

It was so funny to meet all of you guys on that road in Mexico ... so strange that we'd all be over there at the same time!!

The race needs to be rerun for sure ... me or Mandisa will do the video taping .. and no passengers this time! I want to see three gears all out to see how this pans out.

Closing thoughts - The RPI exhaust is loud as sin ... seriously, mine(BMS) and Zeddy's (Stromung) sound like child's play next to that Laidback's coupe.

Come on Dave, lets have a dyno shoot out, then we'll take both cars out to run them on the highway. We've been waiting for the two of you to run for a long time. Thats probably the best way to compare the cars. The dyno doesnt lie. Also, Chris has the manboobies. That alone should put him in a handicap.
