▀▄ eas | [FIRST LOOK] ESS VT2-525 Supercharger System (intercooled) for Z4M

Been keeping this tight-lipped for some time, but the cat's out of the bag.

ESS's VT2-525 Supercharger system is the latest kit released by ESS for the E85/6 Z4M platforms. With a 162whp and 80 ft-lb TQ gain after installation, this kit isn't for the faint of heart.

With our Z4M returning from ESS's facility just a couple of days ago, we quickly took a ride to Buttonwillow to put it to the test.

The ESS VT2-525 differs from it's VT1-445 predecessor with it's Air/Air intercooler system, keeping intake charge temperatures nice and cool. This is especially helpful for extended 20+ minute sessions. An upgraded Setrab oil cooler replaced the factory unit with heavy duty brackets to keep everything in place as if it were offered by factory.

BIG injectors are included, the fueling alone is rated up to 475whp. With a jump in boost from 5psi to 7psi, the S54 transforms into a beast after installation! Huge air/air intercooler fits cleanly behind the factory bumper cover - giving a tease of what's underneath the hood. Rotomolded intake tract rivals the factory pieces. Heavy duty hardware shows the kit is extremely well engineered. New billet crank and water pump pulleys are included.

Hardware is only half the battle, as tuning is equally important. The provided ESS tune is beyond amazing, pulling to redline without any hiccups or hesitation.

I haven't been this excited about a kit in a long time. We've simply fell in love with the Z4M all over again. For those with existing VT1-445 systems, the upgrade path will be a breeze.

ESS knocked it out of the park wit this kit. Those in the SoCal area, feel free to drop by and see the Z4M in person.

Looks awesome!

I just installed the same oil cooler on my VF kit; same capacity, but more surface area. Should benefit on the track. One of the things I like most about ESS kits.

How does it all compare to your old VF kit?

Sooo....you took off the vf kit, and put on an ess kit which is more expensive and made less power?

I guess you got an oil cooler out of the deal and the front mount looks cool

I was informed by AJ that the z4m ecu has to be shipped to arizona and eflash will not work for z4m sc tune since the ecu will require an operating system change.

Is this correct eas ??

I just want to take a moment to say good work and I am very grateful that ESS is recognizing the Z4M market and providing much needed power modifications.
I know from contact with Roman that he once owned a Z4M and that he still loves that car and I hope that ESS will continue this road with the Z4M until the V3si vortech is maxed out with low compression builds that are readily available to the public.

Good luck to you guys and I can safely say that we (Z4M community) love to hear from you. right beedub? :P

VF was pushing a considerable amount of more boost. Here's a comparison of the last run with the VF570 and the ESSVT2-525:

As a matter of fact, the ESS VT2-525 system costs less than the VF570.

There were some issues that were still present in part-throttle as well as limp modes upon deceleration in the VF software, those may have been worked out by now as we've were running the VF570 system for a bit over 1 year.

We've since moved to the ESS system and can confidently say we now have experience with both supercharger systems for those looking to compare the systems and consult with us before making their ultimate choice.

ok wonderful wonderful stuff... so, is it safe to assume this is basically the 500 kit with a new tune liberating the power?

for existing 500 Kit owners, what do i need to liberate the extra 25hp??? we already have the 7-8psi pulley in place??

interestingly my older kit didnt come with the water pump pulley... wonder why the revision here, lastly.. how much for exisiting vt500 kit owners to get the extra power and upgrade to vt525

Lastly, in your opinion.... Ess or Vf for the z4m and why???? youve had experience of both so which would YOU recommend??

can you post the specs of the wheels please??

Since you were provided a custom configuration, ESS would be the best to answer the component questions. We are running grey injectors on this build.

At the moment, the ESS system is simply much more enjoyable to drive, it performed flawlessly on the track - something we haven't fully been able take advantage of for the better part of all last year.

Keep in mind, we are only on 91 octane here in SoCal.

Those with higher octane levels will definitely benefit more, we ran 100 octane on the track but have not dynoed with higher octane fuel yet.

1.5psi is definitely not negligible, but seems appropriate with regards the difference in the power out puts of the two kits. Have you happened to log timing with both?

I'm excited to hear more about this kit when it is released, from what I have gathered from the guys running vt2-500 kit, it was significantly more expensive than the vf570 (which is why I have been leaning towards vf, especially with the price VAC is selling for). This could definitely change my mind though
