Fuel door

Is my car the only one that does this?? I replaced the fuel door assembly when I first bought the car because the spring was broken. 1 year later and it stopped springing again, I pulled it out and found the pin/lever had started to slide upwards and flipped 180°. I wiggled it and locked it back in place so it works again, but I'm just waiting till it comes out once more. You can see the arm is dropped fully into place here, when I pulled it out that was facing the other direction and the gap between the arm flange and body of the assembly was 3-4mm.

Anyone else notice their gas door has this strange shift when locking, I'm thinking it might be my issue. It's like the pin pokes out too far, I've adjusted the stop screw and the door is nicely lined up to the quarter panels both unlocked and locked. Only during the actual locking time itself does it go wacky. My guess is that repeatedly pushing the door like this is causing it to work the pin loose and knock it out of position.

You just made me went out to unlock and relock the car just to check the fuel door moving Now you've made me found another flaw with the car

Mine does the same thing - the locking pin pushing the door causing it to move...just like what your video showed. However, I haven't had any issues with the fuel door at all.

Now you got me curious enough to do the same to the X5. On that car, you never knew there was a locking mechanism in the fuel door as there is absolutely no movement at all

Maybe it's nothing? Who knows, I'm hoping a few others that have either had the same issue with the hinge could chime in. From searching around though it's an unlikely problem. That being said, two for two so far on the flap moving when locking.

I did some quick calculations on the statistical probability of each car having the flap wiggle on lock. By my math and using the data from this thread, it's a 100% chance on all Z4M coupes. Maybe that means something? Maybe it means nothing?? Maybe I'm full of shit??

P.O. punched my lock through into the wheel well. It's flopping around in there somewhere.
Sometimes I hear it actuate when I lock the car, but not often.
Presumably it didn't always release.

My 2003 Z4 had the same problem. The very top broke where the spring connects to the body of the door assembly. (Not the lever). I was able to spread the mounting loop and wrap it around the piece that was left.
