yea... I was wanting something more convenient like a pump station. I've used performance shop barrels, but it's kind of a hassle. Thanks for the response though. Cheers. I should look into the small airport, but they usually sell Low Lead high octane.

Or at least use Google.

I expected at least 1 comment like that..that's cool, but I actually did a google and didn't find much, which is the reason I asked. Thanks for the constructive input though. Cheers

I hate not finding info on search engines, and then getting those asswipe responses.

Never have i thought making a thread on zpost would yield faster results than google.

haha.. it's alright. I was hoping someone living in that area may have a few gas stations they know about. I only found one company in Reno that sells race gas at the pump and I found an old post from another car forum that said there might me a 76 station in Sacramento and that was it.

Call and ask employees from Englishtown, or Monticello Raceway. If there's a place in the northeast that sells race fuel, it'd probably be by those tracks, or an airport, like the other post said.

I'm actually looking for places near lake Tahoe, like Sacramento, CA or Reno, NV. The problem is that gas stations that sell high octane gas never seem to advertise this anywhere. This is odd to me considering it is a specialty item. The fact that they don't advertise is the exact reason I can't find anything on google.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you. This should be a benefit to many people. I would say this thread is a wrap. Thanks again cmark

Awesome! This helps me out as well, although I don't really have a reason for race gas except as an octane booster before a drive.

Filling up a gas tank with 100 octane is expensive... last time I filled up my m3, I paid over 1 benji... Expect to pay around $8 per gallon.

Sorry, I'm from the South Bay area next to San Jose. There are a couple 100-octane stations around here, but it doesn't really help you much, since you're all the way up in Sac it seems

There's one station about 3 miles from my house (conveniently located at the summit of a mountain pass that a lot of car enthusiasts like to mess around on ), and I'm willing to bet it's like $10 / gallon now

I'd be happy with a mix to get 94-95 octane. At what point do we start losing horsepower with the higher octane?

I didn't know you could actually lose horsepower with higher octane?

All I know is that not all factory ECU's are even capable of making use of high octane; rendering it a waste of money, as you probably won't see any gains at all whatsoever.

Plus, 91 is expensive enough nowadays IMHO lol, breaking the $4.00 / gallon threshold and all

In Canada...that would make it at $1.05/litre, where our 91 (premium) is at $1.329 ( $5.02 US gal).

And we export oil...go figure!

I miss the days when I thought $5 / gallon for 100-octane was ridiculously expensive

do we actually lose horsepower after a certain amount of octane with our NA engine? I always thought that higher octane is healthier for our engines as it prevents it from knocking. But for fr8tdog, he actually sees a horsepower spike as he's FI and ESS must have a program to run 100 octane. I know for a fact that with VF Engineering + 100oct, my car ran so much smoother and there was a noticeable increase in power compared to 91oct.

There is a point of diminishing returns with octane. Higher octane fuel burns more slowly.
