Exhaust Can Removal Question
For those of you that have removed your exhaust cans/mufflers, did you have to replace the gaskets or were they able to be reused?
I know this is a general question and there will be variations.... |

by gaskets u mean the rubber stoppers/grommets? i reused the pair of white things u slot a bolt through to secure the frontmost portion of the mufflers. the four black rubber mounting grommets are fixed directly to the car, and as far as i can tell, permanently attached.

I just wanted to be sure, 90% of the time....
I called my local dealer and they want $19.00 each for them... Damn. Tischer only wants $8.00 each.. Of course, AutoZone, Advance and Nappa do not carry them.... The reason for all this hubbub is that I am thinking of painting the bottoms black. |

It's a BMW - not a Sunbird/Cavalier...

I've had mine disconnected twice, reused 'em both times. No leaks I can detect.... On this system, they act as a press form and the heavy clamp blocks will actually slightly deform the flanges on the x-pipe and cans to conform to the ring. This way, once the cans are hung and the clamps are looseley tightened you can raise or lower the tips to get things level and the clamps will still seal.
