Really like your suspension comparison. Can't wait to hear about the Club Sport, but it sounds like the KW3 really was your favorite for mixed street /track use. Do you think it would still win if you had put the assistor spring on the GC setup. Did you use a camber plate with the KW V3? I see one on the GC, and didn't see if you reused.

This is a great addition to the forum and knowledge base for M Coupe tuning. My hat off to you!!!

Fantastic thread! We both bought our M Coupes around the same time and have both been modding along the way. I have some questions and comments...

I have Dinan springs and love the sharper handling they've provided. But is it worth going to KWV3s? I track about once every other month and don't have too much money to play with, in my eyes the KWs are just a ton of money but you make them sound worth it.

Did light bleed through the decals in the back? If so, I'm wondering if this can be fixed by just putting 2 stickers on top of each other.

I've been thinking that the back of the M could look a bit more aggressive. Have you ever thought about how the OEM carbon fiber spoiler would look on IB?

Did you notice any difference going from stock to light weight wheels? The only wheels I'm interested in are the OEM CSLs but again, its a ton of money that could be going to say, a 4.10

Next up on my mod list right now are Remus cans and ESS tune.

Thanks, I’m glad you are finding this thread useful.

For “mixed street / track use,” I would still recommend the KWV3’s. I think this is the most versitile kit out there for our cars.

The ride quality of the GC kit was very track oriented, so nowhere near as comfortable as the KWV3’s for street use. I prefer the more aggressive track dedicated suspension, and don’t mind the compromise in comfort (my wife strongly disagrees and wishes I was still running the V3’s ). If I had used assistor springs on the GC kit and they got rid of the coil chatter, then I may not have gone to the KW clubs sports.

I was not using camber plates with the KWV3’s, I did max out the factory camber settings though. If I had kept the V3’s, I would have added camber plates because I prefer to run close to -3.0 up front.

Thanks, it has been a real adventure.

These cars are well balanced right out of the box, so anything we do to them is really only improving on greatness in my opinion. That being said, stick with what you have until you are no longer happy with it. The mod bug is a monster. Once it latches on, you are screwed.

Suspension: I too enjoyed the “sharper handling” gained from adding springs. I would have stopped there, but I wanted more adjustability and even better performance. “But is it worth going to KWV3’s?” In my opinion, yes they are worth every penny. If you want to maintain ride comfort, greatly improve handling performance, have the freedom of infinite adjustment, and use parts that fit like OEM, then this is the way to go. I would do tires, brake pads, brake fluid, and brake lines first though.

Rear Decals: Yes, light did bleed through the decals. I just removed the plugs. I was worried that this would give me a light on the dash telling me I needed to replace a bulb, but it did not.

The Back: I agree. I really want to come up with a good rear diffuser for our cars. I like the OEM rear diffuser, but we have to cut out the second notch for our dual exhaust and it block some of the ventilation for our rear differential. I think the CF spoiler is okay, but looks better on lighter color coupes. It blends in too much on the darker colors and distracts from the lines of the hatch in my opinion.

Wheels: Yes, but again just a slight improvement on what was already great. The CSL’s Look amazing on these cars. Not a huge weight savings, but improved grip from shorter wider tire profiles. Performance wise the money would be better spent on the 4.10’s. Looks wise, you can’t beat the OEM CSL’s. It really just comes down to which direction you want to go first. I hate to admit it, but I would do the wheels first. The car is already a beast.

Good call on the ESS tune. It really amplifies and improves the driving characteristics of our cars. Have not seen or heard the Remus cans, but I look forward to your review of them.

+1 it looks great.
I did the reflector mod with my previous M Roady and wasn't satisfied with the look.
The delete mod has been on my list since day one.
I'll wait until my car gets put away for winter though.

I'm going to delete the HL washers as well.
They make the car look like it's crying.
