Determining value....

It's been a while since I've been around here. I guess it's what happens when you get your car where you want it, you have your first kid, and you get an old boat that needs a crap ton of work.

Even with all that, my wife has said you do not need to get rid of the car if it makes you happy. Yay for that.

It's just the most remote, tiny thought, moving the car, but I guess enough of a thought that I'm asking how to determine value on these. It's only got 30k on it, when we bought it in 2010 it had 18-19k on it, so it's not getting driven much. I get it out every 3-4 weeks to run an errand or something, and will squeeze in some back road pleasure driving and that's about it.

I was getting Roundel for a while and was following asking prices in there out of curiosity, but it's been several years since I quit paying for it.

Car is an '07 with nav, winter package, has a Autosoultions shifter, Koni Yello shocks with Dinan springs, RAC RG63 wheels with minimally worn rubber, Arqray mufflers. Brake fluid changed this fall, getting ready to check valve clearances. Maintenance wise, I think it's pretty update - all the regular stuff has been done correctly with proper fluids/parts. New battery in the last year, kept on a tender when not driven.

If it doesn't get more use this spring and summer I may be moving it. And yes, I'm about to say the F-word, the coming Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang looks real interesting, particularly getting employee pricing. Finally a modern Mustang the way they were meant to be. Dad was a Ford engineer, so I bleed blue and white, bet it from the blue oval or the Roundel.

Anyway, just curious to see if any of y'all have any ideas for me on asking price if I were to really take moving it seriously in the next 6-12 months, lets say.

Depends on how fast you want to move it. I don't drive mine much either but I do smile every time I do...given < 1800 Z4M coupes were imported to the US, I think this will be a future classic. Consider putting some mothballs in it and keeping it...

Assuming enthusiast condition, I'd list at $32K and wait. While I never buy cars as investments, I actually do believe the value on Z4M coupes will start to increase.

The gt350 is goi g to make you get groceries and drive back roads more often? You dont think it will be more fun to drive? I just think you enjoy shopping and looking more than driving often.

Some guys i know are like that when it comes to women.

You don't know the first thing about me but its clear you are quick to judge aren't ya. Thanks for all the help bud.

For KevinM that actually said something constructive, I am not even remotely close to wanting to move it at this point. And I agree, just in the time I've had this one, I'don't think they've depreciated much, which is all but unheard of for most cars less than 10 yrs old.

If I was unclear, it's been a while since I gave any consideration to what my Z4M coupe is worth, that's all I'm interested in opinions on.

I like the new Mustang, especially in GT350 form and would consider one if I was looking for a new car. The back roof line got a major update. I was never a fan until they put in a independent rear.

Your Z4MC should bring $30k, even more if you hold out. You'll probably regret selling it.

You do know they were built right here in the good ol' American South, right? Granted the motors are imported but there's plenty more than 1800 of those.

fwiw i might throw in an m2 (in regards to new cars). i do love the idea of a gt350, but an m2 also sounds mighty tempying. at any rate 30k sounds about right. best of luck to you. just make sure you dont regret selling the car

having spent a few months looking, here's what i can offer. pristine examples, bone stock, perfect condition, no salt exposure, etc., and with miles at or close to 15k, are selling at retail (dealer to customer) for 34k. private party exchanges are running 31-33k. 30k miles is low, but high enough to no longer be considered low mileage...without seeing the car my take would be 29-32k, given the parts included. as for collectibility, it doesn't matter how many were made; interest in the car is more important. in that respect, all original condition holds value more than modified cars. i wouldn't expect these cars to generate real interest, i.e., significant appreciation at auction, for many years, perhaps 15 or more.

lol. sort of like Chrysler's "imported from Detroit" ads. those always make me think of Detroit as some latin american third world country that goods are being imported from to take advantage of the low labor cost.

There absolutely were not more than 1815 made for North America. Z4M Coupe, specifically. Not counting roadsters and not counting world wide. World wide I think the number is more like in the 4000s, but can't remember exactly.

Ok, I'll find it for you - The numbers are widely available. Facts be facts.

bibbly has a good point. Values may plateau but it's going to be a long while before they really start to streak upward, unless something drastic happens, like M is completely disbanded or something, and that's not likely.

dorifto88 - have had the same thought. Even an M3 with the V8. Had an E46 M3 - that purchase was all about experiencing the S54. When we got it I wanted a Z4M but they were too new, couldn't afford one at that time. Couple of years go by, different financial situation, no plan for kids, Z4M became attainable. That's the quick story.

I don't want to regret selling it, that's my main concern and why it's probably not going anywhere any time soon.

Read it again. I meant the S54 motor.

aight, point taken, yes, plenty of S54s around.

I was thinking it'd be around $30k, +/- $1-2k depending on what went with it if I were to list now. Not too shabby considering we paid $31k for it 5 years ago this spring. Thanks for the input so far fellas.

You clarified your point in a subsequent post, but I specifically called out the Z4M coupe because I certainly know that between the E46 M3 and the ZM4 roadster (and coupe) a *whole lot* of S54 engines were made (although as far as I know all S54 engines were built in Germany and those destined for Z4Ms shipped to the US for final car assembly - could be wrong).

All S54's were built in Germany. For the Z3/Z4M's, final assembly was at the Bubba Makes Wheels ™ plant in Spartanburg.

I would also say about $30k with the miles you have. I also would say the same number whether completely stock or with your mods so if you have the stock parts you might be better off parting out the items easily changed.

I also don't see the prices changing much anytime soon and if anything I think they will come down some before long term going up.
