The Coupe Paradox
Something I've noticed about Z4 coupes, even more so with the M.
They are REALLY hard to find when you want one. But they are also REALLY hard to sell when you want to sell one. Probably a function of 2 facts: There's such a limited market for this car. There's a very limited supply. |

The Z4 coupe seems to push most people to one extreme or another, you like it or you don't with not much inbetween. No question about my preference. Another factor would be for those who track their car, the roadster is restricted by some clubs/tracks.

Well according to Wikipedia there was 4,275 coupes worldwide and only 1,815 in North America so I'd say its pretty hard to come across these cars for sale and we all know that there's a few that have been totaled so that makes them even harder to find...

Agreed. It took me a year of searching for mine. Through that year I balanced need vs. want, practicality vs. usability, and in the end I had to bite the bullet. I did find many for sale, at anytime there were at least 20-30 for sale in the entire US through Ebay, Autotrader, Cars.com and this site. I do not think they are hard to find. I also remember seeing them sell quickly. The ones lingering on the sale sites for months seem to raise more concerns than anything.

And it seems that most folks looking the buy a coupe are enthusiasts looking for an M. I dread the thought of ever having to sell my 3.0si.
...fortunately, with 105K miles and counting it's kind of a moot point. I'm driving this thing 'til it don't drive no more. |

I was looking for a Coupe for a long time. They were hard to find, especially locally. Then I found my roadster and fell in love. After that a bunch of Coupes popped up locally and online.

If I lived in an area where I didn't get snow, I think a 3.0si coupe would make a really nice daily driver. It would have adequate power, be a lot cheaper to maintain than the M, and get a lot better gas mileage.
If the coupe wasn't so dang sexy, the roadster would be a no-brainer. I love my coupe, but I have a feeling it would have been a harder decision if I had driven a coupe on a warm summer evening...

They don't call it a coupe(d-up) for nothing, but they are sexy...
It's prolly how I feel when I have to drive with the top up.. |

I have been looking at them recently and I have found it to be the opposite. Right now Z4M Coupes are actually slightly easier to find than the 3.0si Coupe with a manual. Or at least they are easier to find with lower mileage and low owners. There is only one Z4 3.0si Manual Coupe on sale that fits those qualifications right now, whereas there are several Z4M's.
Personally, I would prefer a coupe, but since they are so damn hard to find, I would be more than happy with a roadster. |
