Exclamation update a 645ci sat nav pro 2005

Hi,

Im a complete newbie and rookie when it comes to any form of firmware updates in sat nav systems.. so first things first.

I currently have the Sat Nav Road Map Europe Pro 2005-2 DVD disc

  1. How do I check what version I have in my 645ci (E63) Sat Nav Professional?
  2. Will this version (v.32) work in my car for my system?
  3. is there any way of making any form of back-up of my current system in case this update fucks things up completely?
  4. anyone made this update in a similare car with same system as mine?
please give any feedback of results, good or bad.

would really appreciate a response from you guys,

cheers!

I've downloaded all of the various software, started UltraISO, but I can't seem to locate NAV_SW.mdf anywhere on my hard drive to extract. Can somebody tell me what folder I should find this in?

Thanks,
David

Hi Guys,

Am a noobie from Australia, picked up my E85 last week and falling deeper in love with it every day. Read the thread and checked my S/W version for NAV, it shows 4-2/30 . Do I still need an upgrade? I am confused as all the posts seems to speak of the 4-1/00 option where I seem to have the 4-2. Please help.

What it looks like you have is the Business Navigation with a firmware version of V23.

The first number "4" tells the generation, in all of our cases it's the MK-IV. The second number is the hardware variant, I think it's 1 = Professional and 2 = Business, but I'm not entirely sure. The third number identifies which firmware version is loaded.

Since all we see in the US is the Professional, I'm not sure about any compatibility issues with the Business Nav and the lastest firmware. You might want to call up a dealer and ask, or maybe one of our European friends can help out.

Thanks for your reply RCNet much appreciated. Any input from our European mates would be much appreciated. The dealer here isn't telling me much.

Just for everyone's information, I have succesfully updated my System Software to v10 using the v.32 image. So for people out there with the Radio Navigation ie: Amber Screen with arrows and voice directions only, you can use the v.32 image without worries. But I have not noticed any difference/additions in features.

Can someone confirm if this upgrade is possible to do on a 7-series e65 as well or do you need to go by the dealer to have it upgraded.

I believe the e65 has the iDrive system and will probably use a different disk/firmware.

I think I figured this one out. I hadn't seen the splash screen since I first rebooted after updating the software. The splash screen is displayed for 8-10 seconds while the system boots up. The system boots as soon as you open the driver side door. You have to get your key in and turn it before the boot is complete to see the splash. I'm usually too busy stowing my coffee mug and docking my XM to get the key in that fast.

I just went through the same thing. This works:

Enabling perspective (birds-eye view) with MKIV and v27 firmware or newer:
* Push the "MENU" button to get to the the main menu.
* Scroll to the "SETTINGS" menu selection and click the knob to select it.
* Push and hold the "MENU" button for about 8 seconds to enter the GPS Service Menu.
* Scroll beyond the bottom to a 2nd page, where you will get the Perspective option.
* Click the knob on the Perspective option to select it.
* Go back to the map view and click the knob. Select 'Map Positioning' then 'Perspective'

Main issue I have with Perspective view is that no street name shows. Anyway to make it show street names on Perspective?

Genius!

Other than the first rebooted after updating the software, I've only seen the splash screen popped up 2x as I couldn't figured out what the problem was...that is until now. You are absolutely correct about the splash screen being displayed only about 10 seconds after system boot (after driver door open). I hardly see it because I too, do too much "fiddling" after getting in prior to starting up

If I hack my screen and then update and then later do a different disk with a different splash, will it update?

I believe you can't flash v.32 over an existing v.32. You would have to load the stock v.31 firmware and then you could do it again with v.32 with a different splash screen.

Does the firmware upgrade provide any new features or is it just custom splash screen and change the nav voice?

Perspective mode, but your 2007 probably already has that.

Just an FYI the nav software wont change the radio at all, like my 2004 radio doesn't show the preset list.
