SMG install into a MY07 3.0si coupe?

Would this be possible? Has anyone done it? Is it realistic? I loved my SMG in my M3. Just curious, as i would love to have it.

It won't fit - that's why BMW didn't make it available on the Z4Ms. I've never driven an SMG, but I actually would have gotten it if it were available on the Z4MC.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. Too bad - SMG is really fun, but so is left foot engagement. I have seen it on the early Z4 verts, I wonder why it won't fit in the coupe?

The ones you saw in the Early Z4s isn't the same SMG II found in the M3. Its similar to the SMG I that was introduced in very few E46 3-Series.

I drove my '05M3 with SMG for 3 years and really liked it but felt like i was missing something without the left pedal. My E36M3 prior to that was of course was manual too. Now that I am driving a car with the exact same engine and tranny(+left pedal) I really have to say that given the choice I would definately go back to SMG next time. I have said it before, I think that part of the Mcoupe/Roadster sales were affected by the lack of tranny options. Half of all E46 M3 sales were SMGII. It is more popular than people give it credit.

That depends greatly on the driver...

Seriously, where do you get these "facts"?

There were a couple lemons, but it hasn't had NEARLY the problems the M3 SMGII has. The SMG available in the Z4 is rock solid (with the necessary software update) and I've never had an issue.

I think if we just let the SMG owners bash it, it might be a different story.

SMGII>SMG, both are reliable, one lightening fast shifts the other not so much. The SMGII is sooooo much better than the SMGI found on the European E36 M3.

Ever driven a SMG in an e46 330i or z4 3.0i sport?

Without sport button the shift is "casual", agreed. Could do better.
With sport button, the shifting is rocket fast. It sold me on it, hands down.

I would debate the reliability of II vs. I, as I does not have the hydraulic pump failures seen on some number of m3s.

You would debating something I didn't say. SMGI found on the E36 M3 were not as reliable or as fast as the SMGII. The SMG units found on non-M vehicles are different. And yes I have driven a 330i with SMG, i would just get the automatic if you want reliability/convience of an auto. The slush boxes are pretty good in the BMW's. The SMGII shifts in .08sec, faster than Ferrari and Lambo versions. It also has Drivelogic and 6 settings to choose from that adapt to a drivers specific individual driving habits. So SMGII > SMG by far!!! All this doesn't really matter anymore, SMG is ancient history. Dual clutch systems are the future and superior to both.

In the uk at least it is not an option for smg, didnt even think ssg was an option but i have seen a ssg z4. only m power vehicles use smg and ssg is the bmw equivalent which is different.
Were i stated it is not as reliable as a normal manual, are you trying to say a smg m3 has less problems then a manual one?
There is always a pump going or non start because the clutch drive plate is low or some crap.

Agreed to this point certainly. The SMG in the Z4 is rated at 0.080 second shifts as well (in sport mode). Just saying that its no slouch.
