What product did you use to clean it with? Did it dissolve easily?

First tried a damp (water) microfiber cloth which removed some but not all. Then tried a damp cloth with dilute Meguiars Gold car wash, followed with a distilled water damp cloth "rinse". Let fully dry and then reassembled.

Just finished cleaning the dust off of mine:
Nice and clean now! You'll have to reset the clock, and your trip, MPG, etc will reset. Hope this helps! |

"Startled Me", You are a master of understatement. Glad things went together well. Nice write up.

There has been a hair underneath the display for nearly 8 years now. It literally stretches across the entire digital readout. I think it's time I follow this DIY!

This is too is one of my projects this winter. How quickly does the speedometer get dirty again?

I did this (without a write up, just winged it) when I first bought my car. I have sensitive eyes at night, and I find the bright indicator insanely bright on this car. While I had it out I applied a few pieces of masking tape between the light and the panel it shows though and it cut the light by about 50%. Worked great. Might add a few more when I have it out again. FYI while anyone has it out.

I worked on my speedo this past weekend as I just purchased an 06 Z4M that had an incredible amount of spots near the digital display. I had everything cleaned up/fixed within 20 minutes. Incredibly easy and what an improvement, thanks!

Thanks for the step by step, and yes the needle reset made me jump a bit even with warning.
