Wheel spacer choices

Considering adding spacers to my E86. By my measurement, it looks like 15mm front and 15-20mm rear should work. Is this pretty standard?

I had 12mm front & 15mm rears on my e86. No problems at all, this is with 18"csl reps.

Just to clarify, these are going on OEM wheels? This is what I'd assume by reading your post but kermit's reply made me think it may not be the case, haha.

The size of spacer needed will depend on quite a few variables (ride height, wheel specs, tire size, alignment specs, etc). There are consensus spacer sizes on the forum, but in order to get it just right for YOUR car.. I'd suggest:

I did measure as VRM wheels suggested. It looks like I can use 15mm on the from and maybe go to 20mm on the rear as the rears don't have the same turn angle load issues. I was happy to find that the gap is equal side to side.

This was definitely not the case on the 944 that I raced for 5 years. After having the rear suspension in and out of that car several times, I determined that the 10mm variation in the rears was due to a difference in the flare of each rear fender. I was told by several knowledgeable Porsche builders that this was a not uncommon production variance. Glad to see that the BMW is square.

I ended up going with 12mm front and rear. I am running BFG Comp T/A 2s all around on stock alloys. The clearance is perfect but if I had lowered the car, I would probably have limited myself to 10mm spacers, particularly on the front.

Do you have pictures of your setup? I am trying to do the same.

For anyone considering spacers, be careful about going with 10mm size, particularly if the provider claims they are hubcentric type. The BMW hub that centers the wheel can protrude as much as 11mm preventing the spacer from sitting flush against the hub. More info is available on the TMS site.

There's also this website that may help you calculate what your offsets will come out to. Not specifically designed for spacers, but helped me out a lot.
