Holy Crap! O for lead? How long have you been running the Liqui Moly? If you don't mind me asking, what type of use is this motor getting (e.g. highway, track, city/suburban...)

I’ve been running Liqui Moly 10/60 ever since I bought it @76k miles. I have records of previous owner using it from around 50k. I don’t track it, mainly spritited backroad driving, it’s been on a few long road trips, and normal highway/city.

I would like to add. If you read their report it says they received 2 different samples from me that had the same results. I took one from the drain plug and I pulled the other from the dipstick. I did both because I know a few people have had flawed samples from the dipstick and I wanted to just “double” Check my values.

Just out of curiosity, does it see much high rpm shifting or occasional runs to rev limiter, or do you keep the shifts at lower rpms?

And I’ve always used mahle filters, not the Mann Every other oil change I’ve used a can of Liqui Moly MoS2. I know some people will call it snake oil etc, it looks like it’s working for me. I found some good threads on it over at the m3forums. Some like it, and some are skeptical. I don’t think it’s a magic cure all potion by any means. Dc_wright I drive it “enthusiastically”. Not to many 8k rpm clutch drops but I don’t always stay below 3k. Never tracked it so she hasn’t had sustained high rpm runs, just the max amount of fun you can have on public roads Last edited by Boosted 1; 01-04-2018 at 12:09 PM.. |

And then I read information such as the link below from the M5Board, which provides convincing information supporting that Castrol TWS flows better than Liqui Moly and is better for cold start wear.

I noticed the same thing with the lifter noise, Boosted. I'm a fan of MOS2 and Ceratec. Ceratec for the first oil change and MOS2 for the next four oil changes, then back to Certatec and repeat. And on my son's E46 330Ci ZHP, I tried out Liqui Moly's engine flush, and I'm really impressed with that product, as well. It cleaned out a lot of sludge, varnish, etc. I checked the oil today (M54 engine has 158K on it), and it was still nice and amber. What came out after the engine flush was black as coal tar. Luckily my S54 engine is pretty much pristine, so I don't have a need to try the flush on it, but for an older car that did longer oil change intervals, it's excellent...though you may find it causes some leaks due to unplugging worn gaskets, but that just means the gaskets needed replacing.
