Fortune Auto 500 coilover help

Hey all, I just ordered these and was wondering about the rear shock mounts.

Fortune Auto told me the kit comes with a replacement rear shock mount. I was hoping someone that has these can describe them and tell me:

1. are these good enough or should I go with the Rogue kit?
2. can these be reversed like the rogue mounts so I don't have to rip the back apart again?
3. How are the damping adjustments made? From the top only? That would suck.

Since Fortune will revalve/rebuild them for only $55 a corner at some point I will need to remove them again so I guess I'd buy the Rogue ones just so I don't have to mess with the hatch area again. I suppose the safe thing to do it order the Rogue mounts and have them on hand JIC.

TIA

Hey, I thought nobody liked me, LOL.

I didn't. But I ordered the Rogue mounts JIC figuring I could sell or return them if needed. I'm still curious about how you adjust the damping on the rear shocks. I hope to get them soon!

Maybe when I get the wheels and coilovers on I'll post a quick write-up with some pictures of my beloved.

Have you ever got these install? What are the spring and wheel/tire spec? I'm curious about the Fortune 510.

TIA,

TIA,
I've installed them and am very happy with them. One huge upside is that they'll rebuild them if/when needed at only $55 a corner.

I got Swift springs and radial bearing mounts. I went with the rates they recommended. I can't remember and I don't think it would much matter. Since this is my first pair of coilovers my feedback on them is fairly useless except to say I'd buy them again.

Did you end up using Rouge RSM plate at the back? What damping setting are you on front and rear? Adjusting from the bottom for the rear damping? How's the road over there? Drives better than OE? I think they do f8k/r10k for similar to stock rates.

How long do you have it now? Does it drop the car at all at the highest setting? Sorry for all the questions but you the only person I know have these installed.

TIA,

TIA,
Notifications on this site are very unreliable.

1. Yes, I used the Rouge RSM's. In hindsight, I wouldn't have used them. I can't imagine how long it will be until I need to remove the shocks again and I don't find it that hard to take off the panels, considering it would only be every few years.
2. Right now I'm running on 7 front and back - that's 7th click from soft. I started at 5 and ironically the ride was worse since it was underdamped and the car bounced around too much. I'd like to try higher settings but it takes a few minutes to get the rear panels off and I've been putting that off. I only just learned about their remote shock adjusters and will be buying a set.
3. As said above, damping is adjusted from the top of the rear shock. Get the remote adjusters.
4. The roads in Phoenix are better than average due to no freezing. I don't know if it rides better than stock but it rides plenty well (EDIT: I'm in my mid 40's and wouldn't tolerate a "lowered/slammed car ride" - I'm married too and we take my car all the time). I do have it lowered quite a bit, over an inch I'm sure. Unfortunately I lost the original ride height numbers. If you're stock, if you want, take some measurements of the ride height. Per BMW specs, I'm measuring from the lower wheel lip, NOT ground, up the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender/wheel well. Right now I'm running 57.3 cm in the front and 57.6 in the back.
5. I've had them installed for a couple months, IIRC. I have no idea about the highest setting, sorry.

So, in summary, I'm very happy with these and additionally the customer support. I've emailed them quite a few times with questions and they always respond quickly and happily. That goes a long way with me.

See attached pics. I am so happy with how it looks. When you consider how low it is, the fact that it still rides well is exactly why I bought these coilovers. The last two pictures are a bit of a before and after.

Fortune is looking better and better. The more research I do the more it seems like the up and coming suspension company with good customer service. Thanks for the review. Maybe I'll jump on one of these before they starting to demand what they deserve.

I'm also thinking about the fortune coilovers. Do they come with the camber adjusting plates in the front? My alternative is to go with the H&R coilovers and they don't come with the plates. That's nice to have and worth a couple hundred $. The H&Rs are also not adjustable but I don't think I'll be adjusting much since I hear they are pretty good out of the box. H&Rs are about $1100 on sale (I've seen them go down to $920) whereas the fortune coilovers are $1400 minimum. Not into the Kawasaki green though but whatever.

Also interested in the Fortune Auto 500 kit. Right now, my stock shocks/struts leave much to be desired after 45,000 miles and A LOT of autocross runs, and my biggest debate is going the B12 kit with camber plates and new hardware or the FA 500 kit with swift springs and radial bearings. I know apples and oranges, but I figure the B12 kit with new hardware and plates will cost me about $1,800, whereas the FA 500 would be about $2,100. If it is a major step up in performance and quality, the extra cost for the FA makes sense to me, but don't want a stereotypical "bargain coil over".

How has the long term use been? Do you use the car for HPDE or autocross? Also, what tires/wheels are you running?

I was actually the guinea pig for fortune. They initially had the wrong front lower mounts and rear spring lengths. They've since redesigned the mounts, although I never had any issues with the original design

I got a good look at their shop when I took the car to them to sort it out. Each shock is hand built, set to a proper spring preload, and tested. They're very helpful and knowledgeable and really want to to get a top quality product for a reasonable price.

Mine had the radial bearings and swift springs 9.5k front and 10k rear. They do well I am debating taking the air ride off and reinstalling them

For anyone that's curious, I contacted Fortune Auto and they claim that the E46 kit will work.

DaveJB, I'm in the middle of installing the FA 500 kit and have a couple of questions. Did your rear spring perch have a threaded part with a nut on one end? I don't recall seeing any other rear spring perch looking like this for our cars. I'm guessing the the perch goes on top of the spring, but I'm not sure if the threaded portion gets attached to the car somewhere. I always thought that the spring perch was sandwiched in on top of the spring.

Also did you notice if you can actually make adjustments to your camber plates? Mine looks like I will have to saw off part of the hex wrench to allow it to loosen the locking screws.

Thanks,

Jim
