More rip off pricing

Need new vanos filter and I rings. Dealership quoting me $20 for the filter (the thing is like 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch diameter) and $21 for one o ring (stopped there, didn't bother with a price on the other o ring).

ECS Tuning sells the $21 o ring for $5.22 and the whole kit for $21.

So sick of the gouging up here.

I heard you but remember dealerships have a lot of overhead expenses to cover (rent, utilities, salaries, inventories,etc...) Of course, those do not justify the prices they are charging but they are in business to make money. Shop wisely!

I recognize things are going to be higher here but 4x the price for an o ring?

I don't actually blame the dealers because I know their margin is not that high. It's what BMW Canada charges them verses a us dealer that proves we are being taken advantage of.

kit is $18 at Tischer, but its only worth while if you have a few things to justify the shipping cost

Absolutely I got tired of the gouging at the local dealer.
I wait until I need a bunch of bits before shopping state side.

Usually do. Just picked up a bunch two weeks ago, however, I was convinced I had the banks filter kit at home...I did buy one last fall. Can't find it anywhere now...kicking my own ass.

The retail pricing of parts already has a FAT margin built in. Dealers charging over retail should be put to shame

i think the point he's trying to make is that retail in the US and retail in Canada are two very different things. we often pay upwards of double what the US retail price is when it comes to automotive stuff.

slightly off topic but I remember looking at buying an Audi RS4 new and it was $94k in Canada and only $60some in the US! Felt I did value the warranty so i passed on importing the US car and put the money into my house instead.

What kills me, really, is that even $5 for an o ring is ridiculous (US pricing) but jack that up to $21 here!!! Come on, are you stamping one out just for me?

I understand what you are saying but ultimately the buyers have control over whether or not to pay the prices. That being said, I always try to prepare and shop ahead of time so i don't get rip off.
I work in the Manufacturing sector and you will be shocked how much these things cost in bulk. We usually purchase hardware in qty of 1,000 and they are usualy in the range of $10-$15 per 1,000 pieces of Silicone O-rings or typical nuts&bolts

That's why all my relatives order their parts an have them delivered to my house. When they come to visit, they just pick them up and bring them right back. I think they've only been caught once hauling parts back.
