Great writing, you seem to have a knack for it.

My review wouldn't be as good and would probably go something like this:

Me got M Coupe. M Coupe is fast, makes pretty noise when going fast and people say hooray for M Coupe when going fast!

My car is an Investment (a solid one) some times the investment has to be on your own happiness, and this one will definitely do that.

So in case my wife divorce's me she can keep everything but can't touch my car, I would be very happy renting a room in someone's house and having my car even if it's just to look at it (because no money for gas).

Maybe I'm little obsessive with this "EMR" (the name of my car).
but this one will stay.. the wife may go tho lol..

Great Reading material OP..

That's the current Cayman S with direct fuel injection tech. In 2006 when the Z4Ms were first released, the Cayman S had 295hp, with EPA mpg of 20/28.

I still don't get how the Z4M got rated at 24mpg highway - I consistently averaged 28mpg or better at 55mph in 6th, and every Z4M owner I've encountered sees the same.

It only does average. You can get somewhat instantaneous figures if you reset it during cruising.

epbrown:

I don't doubt your statement about the hwy mileage of your Z4M but is there anyone else out there who actually drives their M at 55mph in 6th gear for any length of time at all? For me it's too much fun to run the car with the RPM's in the upper end of the range. Bottom line is that I'm a little bit disappointed in the mileage so far but I guess I got spoiled by the very efficient N52 engine prior to this.

mhughett, my average mpg (no reset) over the past month and a half is 20.2 compared with an average mpg (again, no reset for about two and a half months) of 29.3 in the n54 based e92 335i i had last year. not too much difference in type of driving (60% highway, 40% city) but definitely gunning the sonorous high rev bands of the s54 much more.

I just did a check yesterday. From Bremerton WA to Lynnwood WA (about 90miles) on freeways. Some parts @ 65mph, some parts @ 75mph, easy on the throttle, 6th gear most of the time. Average was 27mpg. I have aFe intake though, and it helps about 1-2mpg.

On the other hand, I got ~6mpg at the Bremerton Raceways.

I doubt it - the only times I've managed it is just testing it out for the leg of a road trip every once in a while, but that doesn't explain the EPA numbers which resulted in a gas guzzler tax for those of us that bought new.

Probably less. We were told at BMW's "M School" that the OBC doesn't go below 6mpg, no matter how you thrash it.

Was searching auto-up windows and came across this review somehow?!

What a cracker! I love it.

You have embodied what everyone who owns a Z4M knows into a striking piece of prose. Well done!

As others have already said, seriously good write-up, OP. You do make someone feel like they're in the passenger seat.

Same thing happens to the wife--never fails that she doesn't come back every day or two with some story about a great 30 minute conversation she's had with some random person (enthusiast or otherwise). There's something about this car that just has an effect on people.
I've experienced the same thing. Since I bought the car 2 months ago, I've met about five new neighbors on my street who come up just to talk about the car. Not an iota of envy in the conversation, just pleasant conversation... "is it fun to drive?", etc. I literally am approached by strangers on a nearly daily basis with a smile and some variation of "hey, nice car!" I love the interaction, not out of a sense of gloating or whatnot, but because I feel the same admiration for the car that they do. There's something about the design that feels modern but timeless, and it definitely evokes emotional responses. It's a car that's beautiful enough to get admiring eyes from the general public, but not so much as to lug around too much pretense. It's the Matchbox car you always wanted when you grew up someday.

+ This. In the last week I've had two guys in the office parking lot approach me saying I need to take it to the track. I just paranoid I'll break something or have to buy new tires.

Very original and fun write-up, OP!

Totally know what you mean. I had it for a week (roadster) and when I stepped on the gas, it was almost orgasmic, I felt like I needed a cigarette when I slowed down. I am a a 41 yr old woman and I am in love..(and married to a wonderful man). But I live in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada, and we get a lot of snow, so I will have to get an suv or something for the winter. And I love my 128 coupe, which I have had for 3 yrs and has only 20000 klicks. F@#%rget practical!

Great write up man! I am 18 years old too and recently bought a z4mr. They are amazing cars and your review was great in knowing that I have the same feelings about the car as you mentioned.
