Many sellers on ebay sell the cable and all the software to make it work or you can search for the software to download. Last edited by pungo; 12-22-2015 at 09:49 PM.. |

Yes, I've looked at the solutions for Dummies and the Idiots guide. Apparently I will need a guide for Complete Frigging Morons before I'll have remote shot at doing this myself.

To me, this Mod seems like a must-Do for all Z4M owners. For those of us that a Techno-challenged, just Google BMW Coding services. A host of "remote Coding" service providers will come up. It looks like for $100 to $125, a Laptop and WiFi connection, you can have your BMW coded in your Garage over the internet.
If any of you have had experience with this, good or bad, Please chime in. |

This cannot be done via the Internet unless you already have a local connection and the software running on a laptop.
Once you are that far, you may as well do the simple bit of coding yourself Anyone local to me I'd be glad to help out.

I agree with inTgr8r, by the time you have the car to laptop interfacing done, you can just code it yourself.

I spoke to a BMW freelance coder today and he said he was familiar with this code change in the MK60 module to activate the M3 track Mode.

Being interested in activating this for Auto X, I poked around the edges of the coding process and decided it was not something i wanted to attempt. I contacted a business specializing in BMW coding. For $115, all the needed software is emailed to you. I down loaded all the files, the next day the coder contacted me via "go-to-meeting". While on the phone I took my laptop to my car and connected the OBDII >> USB cable he sent me to my laptop.
Start to finish was 40 min, about half that time he was just organizing all the files I down loaded, the other 20 min coding. We tested all the changes while he was still on the phone. HERE is the cable you need for $20 shipped. Or, the coder will send you a cable, $40 deposit, you pay to send it back to him and the $40 is refunded. I understand some want to learn this, others find it easy. I felt it was $115 well spent. I have enough aggravation in my life and adding BMW coding to that list was not of interest to me. He codded a few other convenience items as well, he had a menu of items to pick from, all for the $115. So, if you are interested in coding but not doing it yourself, don't hesitate burning the $115. I don't know how this site feels about posting vendors in threads, so I have not. But, if any of you would like to know who I used, PM me, I'm glad to share that information. I am very much looking forward to testing/comparing the DTC mode to full off as I Auto X this spring! |

Bossdog,
Glad to hear you finally got the track mode enabled. I enabled mine back in 2014 and have been enjoying this extra mode ever since. The car should have come from the factory this way. I was amazed at the difference it made as an in between mode. Some people feel they don't need this mode and just turn all everything off, but this mode can really save you, especially until you get to know the track/road grip conditions. I'm curious what you think about it once you autocross. It might be too intrusive on really sharp turns. Remotely coding seems kinda scary to me. I wonder what would have happened if there was some kind of internet communications failure in the middle of writing the new code to the module. I'm not sure if the module can be bricked this way. |

All files are local. All writing is done locally with local software. The local computer is writing the information from the local computer, not from the remote coder. The remote coder is simply remotely controlling the software application running on the local computer, not sending the information from his PC over the internet to the module. I agree that if the remote coder were using software on his PC to transmit the information to the ECU, that would be much too risky. This way, it's like the remote coder has really long arms and great eyesight, and he's doing all the programming with a PC attached directly to the car. Or another way to think of it, the remote coder could have simply told the OP exactly what keys to press on the laptop attached to the car, and taken the OP step by step through the process over the telephone, so the OP could carry out the operation, but this way is a lot easier. Salty

I agree with Salty, I've done remote programming many times. All is good as long as everything is local. I usually had a phone connection at the same time. I'm curious what other items he offered to do, so we can compare to things that others here have done. Any chance you would share the list? TIA

Wow. That list is the longest I've seen, and contains some stuff I would love to have. In particular the so-called 'chime' disables! I don't think I've ever heard a more unpleasant squawk.

fyi guys, got the software and cables and did some research.... I've loaded up thi DTC mode..
just noted the m3 guys are able to get the actually M-TRAK light , some are getting the DTC light, but it seems this light can be activated too, anyone tried this one the z4m platform ??? guessing our cluster may not have that bulb. http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showth...t=38098&page=3 also to get the DTC set so its actually cutting in and out at the CSL spec M track we need to change these settings.. to these but they appear different in our data, so I'm not totally sure what we are activating in our instance but its definitely not the higher thresholds that the CSL have without changing the below... we seem to just be adding in the function from the 3.0Si which id guess isn't optimised for the M-diff, the CSL values for the M track are below. Our settings in the .MAN file are quite different. UEBERSTEUERN_MUE_1_2 - wert_11 UNTERSTEUERSCHWELLE_2 - wert_04 UNTERSTEUERN_MUE_1_2 - wert_03 all info in the above thread. Is this definitely changing the thresholds or just turning on the light..... lol????? turning on TDR isn't changing any values of the understeer oversteer cut in and outs i don't think, but not sure how to check??? is this a way to check the valves for the DTC mode?? and where do i change them, i can see the above germans sentences in the mk 60 module but how do we know if thats for the traction fully on, DTC , or the OFF mode settings?

correct, we dont have the light in our cluster.
As far as settings go, you may be right but i dont want to mess around with them. There is a day & night difference in the way the car performs, i dont see how it could be improved much if any.

i haven't had change to drive the car yet, but if you say their is a definite change then i look forward to experiencing this. As your saying theirs a huge difference , what exactly are you feeling ??? ( i won't be out in my car for a while yet ) would still be nice to change those settings to the CSL spec....... which is the proper M track mode for OUR diff if you get me.
