yeah yeah yeah im running a FRAM oil filter

I know these suck blah blah blah, please save it. I KNOW. Somehow or another, one snuck its way into my S54 during the 7500mile switcharoo (as opposed to the factoy 15,000 mile interval).

Its almost time for my car to go in for inspection 1 (25k miles). Will they give me sh1t for having that crappy fram filter? For instance, will they give me warranty issues and say im no longer covered because it isnt a "BMW" filter?

Thanks ------ looking forward to fresh oil and a GOOD filter

^ LOL. I know Fram is awful in quality, but no I can't see them voiding the warrenty just because of using one.

Man that is rough...using a fram on the S54 that is. A buddy of mine had a defective filter from them a while back (spring or something) on his 2001 Acura Integra GSR. Caused total loss of oil pressure resulting in engine failure...spun main bearings and marred the cams/journals real nasty.

With all of that said I doubt they will say anything. I mean if you had an issue and there was a Fram in there then sure. But on general maintenance they usually just rip the old stuff out and replace it. I wish you the best of luck.

I do have to ask...if you used a Fram filter what kind/weight oil did you use?

I bought the car with 18k miles on it. Its previous oil change was at 12,000 miles. First thing I did was take a little road trip to Memphis to visit friends. During my stay I just really got the itch to AT LEAST swap the oil filter out (15,000 mile oil changes are not normal to me and i still dont quite agree with them) and just drive it until the next scheduled maintenance. After that I could start with my own routine of changing the oil and filter at the 7500 mile mark. Anyway, we drove all around to every auto parts place around (BMW dealership was closed) and the very last place we stopped had a fram for the s54 I took it out of the box and inspected it...... it looked exactly like the mahle filters I would buy for my e36 M3...... the quality appeared to be very good and I could just tell that it was very well constructed. (Maybe frams can style filter suck, but the cartridge type like we have seem great )

Since it was fine (and subsequently, it looked exactly like the stock BMW filter but says FRAM instead of BMW ) I wasnt too worried about if it would hold up or not...... since then, I have checked on it a few times and it is doing just fine.

Now that the time is approaching to take it in, Im wondering if it is going to be a problem....

There is more to filters than just being the same physical size. how many holes does the filter have in the return, same size holes, how many feet of filter paper inside the filter, doesn it maintain the same pressure as BMW, does it flow the same amound of oil back to the engine, etc. I've seen more than one engine bite the dust because of the fiter that 'looks the same'.
