Top Opens But Will Not Close

As the title says, my electric top opens without any issues but will not close automatically. The motor does engage and you can hear the lines tighten up. I have to assist it until around the halfway point then it finishes closing on its own.
  • I have a fairly new pump motor relocated to the trunk.
  • I do not have any fluid leaking anywhere.
  • Red leaver is not pulled or else it wouldn't open.
  • Microswitch is not a factor for the same reason as the red leaver.
  • I have an '08 3.0si (which shouldn't matter)

Any advice is welcomed!

Sounds like you have it all covered. Is the fluid topped up to where it should be?

Hey

Based on the facts you've given I've ruled out a slightly jammed emergency release bearing at the pump head since your pump/motor is new and relocated to the trunk.

Your top works well when the top is going down since it has gravity working for it. However, when lifting the weight of the roof the pump/motor has issues. You might have a faulty pump...which could happen but is unlikely since it's basically new. However, in all likelihood your rubber seals within the hinge lifters are failing and simply allowing hydo fluid to past thru them when attempting to lift the weight of the top.

Just went through this-Have you found any fluid by the rear wheels? If so, the hinges need to be rebuilt.

Mine was a head scratcher, as the drains were clogged, so the fluid just sat in the cavaties.

No fluid leaks found. Sorry, meant to mention that. This is a head scratcher as well.
