Pre-facelifted Z4 secondary cats?
Unfortunately I won't get to see my car for another 7 months, and I was wondering if someone could take a look and tell me if their pre-facelifted Z4 has secondary cats. I was under the impression that it didn't, but I've found pictures of Euro and Australian cars WITH secondary cats:
Euro: Australian: My car, from the passenger side FCAB looking backwards... sorry, I pulled it off my Facebook and it's the only pic I have: It looks to me like I have a dual in/out resonator. I'm replacing the headers and don't want to run catless. I've been offered a great deal on a Supersprint muffler, but it requires a connecting "Y pipe." I'm having a hard time finding a single cat that can handle 350 hp and has a large enough inlet/outlet to weld in.

Using RealOem, and a Jan 1 03 build date for your car, no, it doesn't look like it has secondary cats. (I was just looking at this the other day for a member with a newer model 3.0., which does have secondary cats. Here's that link.)
I suppose you could have a friend contact a dealer to see if there are cats or not as a double check using VIN. |

Thanks Ron! I checked realoem.com as well, and the picture looked like cats but was called a "front silencer." Hmmm.

The key I'm using in thinking your car doesn't have cats is the price difference: ~900 for the 2003 part and over 2K for the one "with catalytic converter".
IDK, best way still would be to check it via VIN number plus price. If it's really pricey, it probably has a cat! |

Very true about the price. $475 lol.
Anyone want to trade a catted section 1 for an uncatted/resonated section 1?
