s54 on the bottle vs the ls3....dun dun dun

You guys all know my car
06 z4m
50 shot
rpi scoop/filter
muffler delete
active autowerke tune
no passenger

that's it

friends 2008 corvette 6 spd manual
corsa exhaust...all I know of
and 1 passenger

For the past year my buddy and I have been wondering what the outcome would be between our cars at a higher speed than what the strip offers. I get a random phone call sunday afternoon saying he wants to run me...I accept but my bottle is less than half full and never reached optimum pressure. That pretty much evened out the passenger he had

I couldn't believe the s54 would keep up with such a highway monster w/ just a 50 shot. I also let him get the jump every run b/c my instant torque from the nitrous shot would jump him every time. The torque advantage would become even more evident when we did a 3rd gear run from 60 mph as seen in the video...at that speed I was at 4000rpm and he was at 3500rpm(sorry I'll add it later)

I was honored to keep up w/ an ls3 corvette...food for thought, they usually hit 8's and 9's in the 60-130mph...time to get a vbox and up my shot to a 100

we ran about 6 times from a roll and 2 times from a dig

4/6 I win and continue to pull(super slowly but nonetheless pulled on an ls3 140+)

1/1 from a dig...drivers suck from a dig

3rd gear @ 60

sometimes I wonder if its cost effective to sell the S54, and put a 505hp chevy engine in it vs a supercharger. A LOT more torque

I actually hate how the ls3 feels, on off switch, but I do love the cheap maintenance and cheap power potential.

If I were to do that I'd just get a corvette as they are a better track vehicle and pretty much the same used car cost, but not a chance that I would.

I'm completely satisfied w/ the s54's capabilities and this cars going in my collection...I might pick up the c7 in the future but this car stays put...

So, assuming 50 shot is equaled to ~50 horsepower, your car would be pulling ~390 hp, and his LS3 is rated at ~400. Results would have been a tossup, if both of you were in the right gear.

Good for you. Winning!

My shop keeps telling me to drop a S85 in my coupe. Tuning is not an issue for them, its just cost side on my end LOL.

the vid was of us in the right gear, 2nd. I haven't posted the 3rd gear pull as of yet, as my buddy is reluctant to post it In that vid I walk a bus length in 1 gear

and his car is 430 hp rated

Cool vid.

So 2nd gear you're even and in 3rd gear you pull about 3 car lengths? Post up the vid.

LOL - of course they're telling you that, they want your money

If you're going to do a swap you gotta DIY part of it (imo). Shops will probably put you through the ringer... though some people just like to waste gobs of money. Though I personally think it's a waste to remove an perfectly running S54 for something like that. Make older cars that are in need of restore your franken'stein monsters... not a 4-6 year old car.

It is under the smiles [more].

As for the my notes regarding racing on the streets....sorry...but maturity would provide you with insight that this should be done on the track.

You should put your car (with nitrous) on a dyno and let us know how much HP / TQ it pulls with a 50 shot. I know the car isn't a straight line / drag car, but would be neat to know how it compares with the supercharged S54 engined cars. I know they have ~450 hp, but would be interested to see how your torque / hp curve stacks up next to the s'charged ones.

Fr8tdog can probably vouch for the nitrous system being better for dragging but thats all your limited to. The torque curve is similar to what a turbo car would be on race gas tune but better. You can look up my track times in the track section for better comparisons

Now nitrous and s/c would be amazing... Hint hint

I'll get it dialed in for a 100 shot eventually when I head to the dyno, hopefully in a month

Thanks for the info, I think it looks killer. Did you buy yours on Ebay? I'm thinking about buying one, painting it mostly imola red, then maybe like a touch of sating black on the out edge of the spoiler to go with the theme for my car.

yup, bought it on ebay for 200 now that I look back, from autoanything I believe. I would love to add a carbon trim as you stated, but haven't found the time. The spoiler really adds to the rear of the roadster since it kind of lacks presence compared to the coupe. get it and do it...oh yeah it's just held on w/ 3m tape also
