Lightbulb Shopping list for Maintenance

////Update: Revised list posted. See posts below for changes/////

I've compiled a shopping list containing items, prices/suppliers, and part numbers for what I believe to be ALL required maintenance for the Z4M. It also contains some of the more basic torque specs (drain plugs, etc.), links to how to posts, etc.

I found that, while the information available on this forum and others is of course invaluable, it required referencing literally dozens of posts to collect the information in this document, and I hope others will find it valuable when planning maintenance. And for those misers like myself who hate spending money on ECS's shipping charges, will allow you to place 1 order for a complete inspection 2

If any thing is missing, I would greatly appreciate the input, and I will update the document accordingly. I am extremely OCD about stuff like this, so nitpicking is expected and encouraged. Once we've decided its complete, I'll make a PDF and host it somewhere to be used as a reference.

Thanks for the ongoing insite and wisdom the members of this forum provide. On a side note, if anyone has a shim set I can borrow/rent in 2ish weeks, I would be appreciative. I'm located in Philly, but would be happy to send out a prepaid shipping label if I can't find one near by.

Ummm...at a quick glance a couple of items (and thanks in advance for the work).

1. 25 ft-lbs on the oil filter housing? I see that in other posts, and it's been a year since I changed my oil last, but damn, that seems awfully high, no? Is it really tightened that much? Tighter than oil drain plug or spark plugs?
2. I wouldn't wait for inspection 2 to replace the air intake element. That's at least an "every Inspection" item and I actually replace mine every 15Kmiles or every year (easy to do)
3. Brake Fluid Flush: Every 2 years or sooner (depends on use)
4. Diff and tranny fluid. That's an every Inspection item (or every 30K miles)
5. Replacing power steering hose around Inspection II seems a good thing to do

My TIS shows 33N*m or 24ft/Lbs torque for the filter cannister bolt.
On the E85/86 Z4M the diff and tranny fluid change is an Inspection II item per the Service Maintenance Checklist.

One might add the serpentine belt at Inspection II. Think it has a recommended life of something like 60-75K miles. Really just peace of mind.

Thanks for compiling this info!

I believe that the link in the "Clean Soft Top Drains" is incorrect, but I'm not sure what the correct link is. When I click on it, it just goes to the Bimmerpost home page.

Can someone (elerner?) point me to a diy or discussion post on the power steering hose? I've heard that mentioned once or twice, but I didn't realize it was all that prevalent of a failure.

Mine was weeping, going to replace it next time I change oil. I'm at a little less than 20k miles.

thanks for the link jmillet.

A quick search on ECS shows two accessory belts, should they both be changed (AC and water pump)? Are there any other accessory belts?

Elerner, I agree with you and I will be changing the inspection II items at inspection I, but I'm going to leave them listed this way for now for the benefit of those sticking only to the manual.

Does anyone have a part number and capacity for the power steering fluid?

Went out to look at my serpentine belts, the small one on the bottom is cracked, bigger one looks fine. Thanks for the tip, will add that to my do to list.

OP, it would be cool if you made this a public Google doc so we don't need to re-download every time there's an update, and can access on mobile. Same song I sing to my bosses at work, but alas, it falls on deaf ears.
