Cool Calichase's interlagos blue z4///M coupe "build" thread

Hello everyone,
I have recently (5/18) picked up a new car that I have waited for over 18months to say I rightfully own! I initially put a deposit on it in October, after searching for something like it for 8 months. I always wanted an ///M, but in the spring of 2013 I couldn't decide between an e46 m3 and a 135i, yes I know, the 135i is not an ///M. Two very different cars and I liked the fact that the n54 in the 135 could easily be upgraded FBO to run 400 whp. We'll out of left field, I met a man with a red lotus exige. Well his daily driver was a z4m coupe and I fell in love. I did an extensive amount of research and knew that the z4mc would be my next car, but with only 1815 ///M coupes ever made I had my work set out. I knew I wanted a blue car, and my sights were set on an interlagos blue specimen. I searched for months and by august I lost hope. Occasionally one would pop up and be way to expensive, and let's face it, I might have just been dreaming the entire time. Well in September a beautiful 2 owner example popped up. Literally my dream example. 60,000 miles, interlagos blue over black, carbon fiber trim, some other goodies. I was in love.

I made it a mission to earn the car and I did everything in my power. Proving to them that I was capable, not only financially, but mentally. Finally, last sunday, my work paid off, and I went and picked up "Helios." Maintained by an phenomenal forum member, I could not have found a better car. I researched the car more then need be, examined the car and the owner was along side every step of the way, helpful and knowledgable, a really stand up guy. A lot of his, as well as my time had gone into this car and I can say that when I went to pick it up Sunday, I felt ready. My e46 had taught me well, and I was ready for the next tier.

The previous owner, kept the car in a heated garage where he planed to build the m coupe to a high hp racecar, even having catless headers, a m-stache 2, wheels, seats, cf wrapped trim, tires, suspension, and a vf-570 supercharger in the garage. I chose from the lot and got the wheels, apex arc-8s, wrapped in fresh toyo proxes r888s. A phenomenally meaty stance with the 10.5 in wide rears wrapped in 275s. I also chose the coilovers as we'll. which were installed prior to my first visit back in October. Then he kept the car all winter while I worked my *ss off. I could not have asked for a better deal, nor a better car nor previous owner.

The car was also fitted with cf trim and black panels, originally all wood and tan. Inside were replica porsche gt2 cf seats, Reducing the cars weight by 52 lbs.The previous owner installed a few other lightweight components and corner balanced he car perfectly. I hope to soon weigh the vehicle.

The car handles phenomenal. An Unlimited amount of grip, and boy does the s54 sound intoxicating. Not a normal engine sound either, you can hear the engine breathing and working, all the way up to 8000rpm. It rides low and fast, attracts attention from it's unique exotic look, and pulls harder then I would have ever expected.

The journey home from northern nj was a little worry some. I had driven the car 5 miles prior to Sunday. It was a difficult car to get used to, small, with an elongated nose. You are basically sitting in the trunk. It's aggressive, menacing and absolutely fun. I had a few interesting cars tag along on my voyage home, a lotus, couple audis and even a v8 vantage try to catch a glimpse.

I got home and put the car on the lift to inspect it more. It was literally perfect. I was trying to find something wrong, and couldn't. It felt weird, coming from my e46 that would constantly throw a fit after being driven that far.
I put 600 miles on the car by Monday night. The previous owner put 2000 on it in 2 years. I put it in my garage and stared at it for awhile Monday night, knowing that I couldn't drive it for a few days. That turned out to be much harder then I thought.

Now for some pictures
My old e46 "track car" with a roll bar and plenty of cf goodies

Hopefully I can get some good ones with my friend who just bought an alpine white 2007 m6.

So some future plans for the m coupe include learning the car, taking things slow and getting accustomed to it. Most important, Enjoying it. I don't want to modify it to much, I think I got the mod bug out of me with the e46, the m coupe is basically perfect from the factory.

I would like to get some beefier exhaust tips, either a rpi muffler which drops a total of 30 lbs and adds a loud raspy exotic tone, as well as a unique look with it's staggered tips, or maybe a RE diablo muffler that exemplifies what the s54 should sound like. Deep and roaring, with symmetric tips. Maybe a RE diablo x pipe in addition to either muffler to get even more sound. Although I have heard that doing so can be very loud with rpi's, and that I should add 2 "1/4" wave resonators in the exhaust.

Then a few little things like painting the reflectors to match the body, and getting my m-stache front lip installed. I do a lot of composite work and would love to sand down the lip and add a beautiful finishing layer of carbon fiber. I also saw a forum member who added distance sensors to tell how far away from the curb the car is. I really like this idea and might ask him how he went about doing so.

Maybe upgrade the transmission mounts and a few other little things, but other then that nothing extreme. Just keeping it as the garage king and hoping to sell the e46 and pick up a daily(considering a Prius).

Lastly, does anyone recommended a good tow hook mount? I'm nervous to drill holes in the front bumper.

Congrats on the purchase. Not too many members here in MD. My car is in Eldersburg, on the other side of B-more from you, while I'm overseas. I actually had my aero side skirts done at Jeff's body shop just down the road from you and they could probably do the reflectors.

I think there are still a set of RPI cans for sale in the classifieds. check HERE.

I'll be home at the end of next month and plan on going to the Cars and Coffee in Hunt Valley on the 28th just north of Baltimore, you should try to make it up there. There is one in Annapolis too, but from what I have seen in pictures it doesn't compare to the Hunt Valley meet. Theres also a BMWCCA autocross the next day in Waldorf.

Thanks! I have seen maybe 2 other m coupes in md, I see a black one driven quite frequently heading up to dc from Annapolis.

Jeff's autobody is close to me, they do nice work but it is very overpriced. I have been to the Annapolis cars and coffee once, not in the m coupe though, and was really thinking about some of the other meet-ups. I know one is called Katie's cars and coffee that is suppose to be bmw heavy.

Hopefully, I can take the car up to summit point before October. It would be great to autocross it a few times prior though.

Thanks for referring me to the rpi cans! Stefan contacted me the day I purchased the car. Hopefully if I can sell my e46, I will pick them up .

You'll want a set of DKF hangers to go wi the RPI cans too, makes it a lot easier to get them aligned and looking right. They help a little with the drone too. They're doing a group buy on them right now too

You'll need to return the car, I'm in MD and have an Interlagos Blue Z4MC. MD is too small of a state for 2 or more IB Z4MCs. Well at least your on the other side of the bay, so at least we're separated by water... LOL

In all seriousness, welcome to the club. Great looking car with a mean stance. Those tires are huge! You'll have a blast driving the car, it's just so much fun and gets lots of looks.

BTW, the Stromung mufflers are much deeper than stock but not too loud while cruising. If you ever get out toward the Columbia area, you could listen to mine. I also have the tools required to do custom coding.

No way! What a small world. I spend time in college park, and work in lithium near bwi, but live on the eastern shore. Thanks for the warm welcoming and I hope we can meet up atleast once during the summer!

Sounds like a plan, I know of 2 other m coupe owners, JP who also has a red exige s, don't know if he's a forum member, and jay with an alpine white with a cf roof. We could have a small get together

Washed and waxed the car yesterday, and did a test fit to see how the m stache 2 will look. It's very low, but looks great

I have Done a lot of little things to the car recently. I Painted the reflectors and they came out fantastic. I certainly thank the great DIY on here showing how to properly paint them.

I Adjusted coilover settings for the appropriate ride for my local streets and roadways.

I Installed a set of rpi mufflers! I absolutely love the sound. Certainly a lot louder then stock, but not unbearable. Definitely adds a lot to the car, especially visually.

I got my m stache on, and wrapped in cf vinyl for now. I wanted to do real cf work but realized I would certainly scrape it up and ruin all the work I would out in to it. The vinyl looks great, and blends in nicely, it's not a glossy finish, so it doesn't catch too much attention. I think a true cf m stache would draw a lot of attention to that area of the car. I would rather have eyes drawn to the car as a hole instead.

I got my front tow hook mount, which I'm not a particular fan of since I prefer symmetry.

And lastly my personalized "save the bay" md plates. Although i have seen many "rated m" vanity plates, the message still spoke to me. This car represents a milestone in my automotive passion. Finally having the oppurtunity to step up to the high performance division of BMW. I dreamed of having an ///M for numerous year. The wait was worth it! This tag wraps up many of my feelings for the car. I am finally "r8ted m" and can join the ///M community with my new m coupe. The "my other car races in imsa gtp" was a frame my father had on his car when he raced his can-am car at willow springs and Laguna seca back in the late 80s. Kind of a heritage thing now. Hopefully someday my other car will be in an imsa class.

The first 2 months have been absolute bliss. Although I must say the hardest part is not being able to drive the car. I've put a limit on myself to only driving the car on the weekends I find myself sitting in my garage late at night waxing and detailing it, or just sitting down and admiring it. The hardwork and dedication that I put in to receive such an amazing piece of mechanical art, as well as the work done by the designers and engineers when building it.

I have had a couple photoshoot already, and have a few more planned coming up.

Here's a few with my e46. (Which needs to go)

Gotta love the dogs reaction

And my personal favorite

I also had the opportunity to meet Nate at a local cars and coffee. There was even another interlagos coupe there. We will try to get together soon and have 3 interlagos at once! Sorry in advance for a few bad cell phone shots.

Some other shots from local cars and coffee.

The f40 was truly amazing to see.

And another m coupe!

My dream garage. 997 gt3, z4///M coupe and noble m12.

And another photoshoot.
Check out all of them here
https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/justin...7645789193031/

And my personal favorite.

You can't walk away without looking back in admiration.

That's it for now!
I just want to enjoy the car and possibly take it to summit point in October and November. I want to do a few local auto crosses first though.
I plan to do the CDV mod, upgraded engine and upgraded transmission mounts this winter.

Hope to see some of you guys out at bimmerfest east next week!
