European cats e46 m3 vs z4m - Discussion

I tried to search gents/lady...

WHY cant the e46 m3 european cats fit the US z4m and HOW can we modify the e46 m3 euorpean cats to FIT the US z4m?

Legit question, and if the solution is cheap then we can possibly figure out a way to make this work with european headers.

the only reason i can see is the flanges don't line up, they'd need to be cut off and rotated 90 Deg ... other than that they look identical in size and shape.

If I remember correctly the E46 one is also longer by a bit. Don't know measurements though.

Any feedback in that sector gents?

I assume from the first comment that flanges need to be turned, that's on the second 2 connection?

The flange between section 1 and section 2 won't line up and need the be rotate.

Also, the section 1 on E46 M3 is 3" shorter than the Z4M section 1. When I had my Z4M Coupe, I removed the OEM cats section 1 and installed an E46 M3 Supersprint straight pipe section 1 and needed to modified it.

Hope it help

But why someone would like to put euro E46 M3 cats when he already have SMALLER US cats on his Z4M from factory?

You can just put euro/CSL/aftermarket headers and get 2x o2 sensors and 1x EGT bungs weld in his OEM section 1.

The bungs can also be weld into the headers and get a tune!

It will cost less to get the bungs weld than having to buy another similar section 1 that only difference is having bungs from factory...

Many of us like to hang onto all of our stock parts in case we need or want to revert in the future. Knowing that there's another option now in the unlikely event that I ever wear out my Euro cats would be great.

The more the money cost, the more the enthusiasts hang onto to their stock shit for resale purposes. No one wants to buy a very used up, heavily modified vehicle with records

I'm also understanding that the undercarriage of the US z4m is shaped differently to where the e46 m3 euro cat would not fit...

Additional thoughts?
