The VT2 is very streetable, and builds power just like n/a. And I guarantee you won't be near 420rwhp without spending a lot more than $8k. In fact, I'd put $20 on it. Please keep your expectations realistic so you're not dissapointed later. I already did some research about this before going FI

There is whole lot of potential just in the cylinder alone.....not to mention CSL plus a custom Alpha N tune :-) we will see. and I never said I would make more than vt2....I only said it would be very close.

Sorry for the negativity...

If your looking to make close to 400 its going to cost a hell of alot more than $8K and
when you do it will not be very streetable. You will need something similar to SS
V1 stepped headers (V2's won't get you there) / remove or get high flow cats before
you can even think about getting close to 400, these items alone are min. $3000.

Building a N/A high HP motor requires building a complete system with a goal in mind.
All the piece from Intake to exhaust (including the bottom end) need to be matched up.

One last thing to consider is that without either increasing displacement or compression
its going to be very flat til to get into the higher revs.

If it could be done for $8k alot more people would be doing it.

funny thing is someone here in the UK has done exactly what your doing, stage 3 everything, csl intake, alpha n, shricks, serious head and port work EVERYTHING..... he made 400 crank!!
If you want close too vt2 performance on a n/a car, you will probably need to triple that 8k and then some.......

definatly respect what your doing but honestly getting massive power n/a from the s54 AND keeping it streetable....the two just dont go hand in hand.

The thing i love about the vt2 is it feels just like a n/a 500hp car...... exactly the same power curve just higher up the graph..... The good thing is as well power upgrades are a pulley and tune away.... After seeing what the turbo tuners are getting from a bone stock s54 im literally blown away... im seeing 600rwhp reguarly on bone stock motors, and im not talking about motors that are lasting 5 mins..... Really impressed with what ive seen from the s54 and forced induction.... it just seems to love it. i would say vt2-550 would pretty much make the perfect s54....

Well if anything I know for sure Im going with a stage 3 head and mild schrick cams to make it streetable....I already have euro headers so the CSL box seems logical.....but it will be the last thing I get. The Head will be the fork in the road. From there I will decide if I stay the course of NA or go FI

I think the only real gamble here is the head I purchased, I ended going with a used head instead, with matching part numbers. I am told that all s54 heads are identical but there is always that little doubt in the back of mind, the one that wonders if there will be a perfect match between the two....hmm.

definitely a cool project, is there chance you can do a dyno now and then a comparison dyno after the project is complete?

Yeah im going to get dynoed this week, I feels as if Im wondering off into very dark territory here which is why Im using a seperate cylinder head just in case shit goes bad I can go back to stock. I cant wait to see what it will be like with cams, and stage 3 porting and polishing.....:-)

I feel inclined to say that I agree with the facts. N/A power and streetablity dont go together especially for under 20k but I think poerting up the head is gonna be awesome either way. I bet all these guys running blowers could benifit from Head work.

VAC is USUALLY really good. I've had a bad experience, and so have others, but its like that with any shop, but I still trust them. The techs don't mind spending 20 mins on the phone with you, and Armand is a straight-up guy.

I think Beedub did a port/polish on his engine... don't remember

anyway, remember that these type of mods usually add a very fun peaky top end, and take a little bit of torque away everywhere else. I think 3.5 stroke + cams would be the best way to spend your NA build money. I don't think you'll see any more than 15rwhp out of a port polish, and thats only at 7500rpm+

edit: wow I see the stroker kit is $7700!!!! thats a lot of dinero

I still think that P&P, schrick Cams and the CSL box with an Alpha N tune should be a
solid 30hp....everywhere. maybe a little more in the upper register.

Just make sure you get a baseline dyno. Its VERY important, and I regret not doing it.
