question about the kw and stoptech`
i already have a set of Kw v3 and stopteck 4p BBK on my 2005 z4 3.0i.
and i am gonna sell it (or trade in) for a m coupe. the question is, can i still use the kw and stoptech on the m coupe. One of my friends, he is a mechanic working in BMW dealership, says i can use them. But, i checked the website of kw, they have differnt parts no. for non-M and M. Anyone have experience on this? What should i do? THX

O-cha is a little over the top but is making the correct general point. Both are different parts (and part numbers) for M and non-M cars and don't transfer between the 2 cars. Even though aesthetically the cars appear the same they are very, very different when you get into the mechanicals.
I am curious what BMW dealer your friend works at? Dealer tech's often have little knowledge of aftermarket parts for BMW's as they are trained only on factory parts and as a matter of course only recommend you use OEM parts from BMW. As such dealers generally aren't a good place to have aftermarket modifications done to your BMW, specialty shops dealing in BMW performance / racing are generally a better way to go. dave |

The brakes certainly could not be used. But the springs and shocks might work, with minor modifications. I haven't taken these apart myself, but I would guess that the main difference would be in the front upper strut mount. I don't see why the bottom of the front mounting would be any different, or anything in the rear. Then it gets to a matter of shock and spring tuning for M vs. non M, which might be a matter of personal taste instead of a fitment issue.

The brakes might be usable/adaptable, but wouldn't be an upgrade from the OEM brakes. Stoptech specs 355 or 380 mm brakes for the M but 328 or 332's for the standard Z's - about what the OEM M is. If you want to upgrade your brakes your best bet is to sell off your Z BBK and buy the correct one for the M.

Don't bother asking your mechanic about the suspensions. O-cha is right. They won't fit. The non-M uses E46 style front struts. The M uses E36 style front struts. Completely different animals.

Thanks for clarifying that. I have never seen the front suspension on a regular Z4. Sorry for the bad information.
