A 75 year old lady murdered my DD, an R32 this morning

Woken up to the sound siren and flashing lights is not something I have in mind for a Monday morning. The woman was driving a V8 Durango which butt-fvcked my R32 and pumped it so hard that it traveled at least 4 feet forward and hit my gf's Murano.

I think she's a total loss.

P.S. You can tell how far the car was pushed from the mark on the curb (under the car, right in front of the rear wheel). The lift-gate would no longer close. Loose sh!t were knocked all over the place inside.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. So she hit it when it was parked out side your house? Atleast no one was hurt.

The cops didn't disclose much but I think she has a medical condition. I took a few photos while the offending vehicle was towed away and it has a disability plate.

Believe it or not, this is the 4 times in the past 3 years this has happened to me. It's almost comical when I saw this.

The good thing is of course, no one was hurt and the other driver is doing the responsible thing by calling the cops and stayed at the scene.

Sinks for your car. Sorry to see this. Glad the driver did the right thing and will be ok. File under "$h!t happens." However, sounds like it happens more to you. Good luck with the repair/replacement. Maybe it's time for the driver to hang up the keys before someone gets hurt.

Unfortunate scenario but that's why we have insurance. Poor woman who dun killed your car but it's just a car and glad she's ok.
Have you thought of a replacement car yet?

Thank you all for the support!

I had a Z4 convertible in 2008 which was totaled before I even got the title. Same thing happened in another neighborhood. That was caused by a drunk guy who stole someone else car though.

I hope things turn out for the best with the insurance claims. Is there any chance an adjuster would try to get this fixed?

The M Coupe will be a daily driver until I find a replacement.

Wow, 4 times in 3 years? Thankfully it wasn't the Z4. It a good thing no one was out walking or you weren't walking around to get in that car when she hit it. Wow.

The "older driver" issue is one we're going to be seeing a lot more of I'm afraid. Many have no business being on the road given the condition their in (medical, mental, vision, and so on). Both of my parents are older (84 and 89) and live in a retirement community and issues around driving are a huge deal the older set. Most of them view driving as a "right" and (understandably) fear the loss of independence that comes without a license. It also points to larger issues (aging and end of life) that many don't want to face. Just about every other week one of the retirees jumps a curb or drives the car into a grocery store. And yet they sit around discussing "what not to tell your kids or your doctor, since if you do they'll take your license away".

There's a lot of variability in older adults too. I can't tell any difference in reaction time or driving skill with my dad (89) vs. when he was in his early 50s; my mom on the other hand has mostly given up driving which is a good thing given how much her skills have degraded.

There are no easy answers here but with an aging population we can just add this to the ever growing list of dangers on the road (distracted driving--phones, electronics, texting; lack of driver training/skill; poorly maintained cars; etc.)

sorry to hear that and for your run of bad luck. Thanks for sharing. I wont be complaining about the elderly driving slow today. I'd rather they drove slow and control their cars properly.

Perhaps you should get a color car that is a little easier to see?

Sucks that this happened but sounds like it was in the best of circumstances. Nobody in the car or hurt and the lady is taking responsibility.

Highland park, Inver Grove Heights, Uptown and Edina. Bad drivers are every where. So I think it's my luck. I remember you were in the process of buying your Z4 through the bank where you work at when my Z4 was hit a couple years ago. How's she treating you?

I know, right? I always wanted to color-match the reflectors on the front and rear bumpers on both the R32 and M Coupe but decide not to because of this exact reason.

My neighbor told me the lady's daughter came knocking when I was at work. She came over to find out more of what happened and apologize for the accident. They sound like nice people. Hopefully the adjusters will play along and get things sorted out quickly.

Elderly drivers... Our Q7 was parked in a lot at Longhorn Steak House for about 10 min. We had just ordered when a car crashed into the side of the building. I went out and saw she had first backed up and smashed into the Durango parked next to our car which slid into our car doing over $6K in damage in the process. My wife had seen the woman being helped out of the restaurant by others in her party. Why would she be driving with all the other able bodied folks with her? I am all for yearly driving tests on folks over 65 yrs of age. i would gladly submit. Sorry for your loss. Make sure they pay as R32's hold their value quite well.

one time we were having a bmw meeting with like 10 cars from the club and some young guy parked a land cruiser in front of the line of bimmers. he walked away and like an hour later an elder man came in and went into the land cruiser, then suddenly the truck went in reverse and hit an e46 (the front bimmer of the line) and we yelled ad the guy so he would stop it but he just got afraid and confused and just stepped on the gas harder and the land cruiser continued to go back with so much force it made the e46 hit another bimmer and the other bimmer also went back and hit another one and so on and on. finally the old man stopped the car and like 5 or 6 cars were damaged by the front one, the land cruiser had so mucho torque that it made a hole in the floor leaving thread marks. those cland cruiser are nasty beasts, you shouldeve see how much towing force those thins have.looks like the younger guy asked his father to move the car and the father didnt know it was automatic and thought the gas was the clutch :S at least it didnt went forward were an e30 m3 evo and my z were parked as we arrived later.
