Comments on CNBC's "BMW: A Driving Obsession"
I watched CNBC's BMW show and I was wondering what you all thought of it.
1. What are you overall comments on the show? Did it live up to your expectations? 2. How do you think the show portrayed BMW? 3. What would you have liked to see done differently? best, SR

Thought the show was great, would not have changed a thing. Especially liked the opening, which showed an E89 going around the 'Ring, and the in-depth interview with Van Hooydonk. Yes, the session with the sound engineers was a little over the top. At least it kept my wife amused.

I thought they might have spent a little too much time talking about how they make cars at Rolls Royce. I also thought their obsession with the sound of the interior chimes was a little too much as well. I would have liked to see more about the technical side of the cars and how they respond to issues like the high-pressure fuel pump issues that have plagued their N54 engines.

Looking at it from the general public's POV (not a car fanatic) I think it was great and probably helped BMW very much.
Looking at it from our point of view, I definitely could have done with less RR info and less of that sound engineer, more coverage of certain "cult classic" appeal that some BMW models have achieved. |

I'm sure that CNBC will run this show many times over the next few weeks. I just checked and I think it is on tonight at 9:00 eastern, 8:00 central time.

I actually thought it was pretty boring. They did a nice job of portraying BMW as a top-notch brand but they didnt really get into the different models they offer, the M division, etc. It was basically just showing people the factory and how they also own RR (which they spent way too much time on).

I agree that it left a lot to be desired. I liked that it opened the show with a Z4...and I liked the first 20 minutes or so. But, after that it got pretty boring. Like the others said, I was hoping to see more about the different models or the technical side of BMW. I don't really care about the sound thing or the buyout of RR. I didn't buy a RR, I bought a BMW.
Sucks because I was pretty excited about the show and it was a real let down. Even the delivery program in Germany was covered pretty superficially. The odd thing is the title really made it seem like it was going to at least mention how BMW owners are passionate etc., but nothing.

It was interesting, but really didnt cover a lot. Would have traded the obsession with the sound guy for some insight into the M division, racing history and even a bit on the Mini brand. Did enjoy the Rolls Royce segment.

The wife enjoyed it. She saw where her daily driver came from and what I've been bantering on about for so long. |

Did anyone else notice that when the E89 was running fast on the autobahn, the steering wheel was shaking a lot. More than I have ever seen on both my Z4's at speed.

Wow. Looked again and saw exactly what you mentioned. That close up of his hands really showed it. Mine shakes a little at speed, but nothing like that. Not remotely close.
