Titanium wheel bolts...

So I'm looking at titanium wheel bolts for next season to shed some additional unsprung weight, and wondering if any of you think it is worth the price. Tikore sells a set for $699. This seems excessive to me, but I found these as well for under $300. Any opinions? Is the weight saving worth it compared to steel bolts?

I can't stand bolts personally. Much rather have a stud kit, even if it meant more weight.

Not worth it IMO

There is very little to be gained in rotational mass as the bots are near to centre.
...so it's unsprung mass alone. You are probably looking at 700 grams or less in weight saved.

+ I agree with above.... Studs all the way if you track the car much.

I don't track the car regularly. More occasional evening open events with local clubs

What makes you hate bolts? Just interested to hear your reasoning since I prefer using bolts.

Bolts are a pain to rotate wheels 4 times a weekend. After going to studs, you won't go back. I think with a set of 18's, they look better with studs. But that's coming from someone who likes the look of a race car over a show car.

Btw, if you are looking to save less than half a pound, it might be better to go to 18's.

But your car looks hot with your last 19's, so I am sure it will look good what ever you decide.

I guess since I dont see a lot of track time it doesn't really bother me. Which is really why I wouldn't run 18's on the street. I just like the proportions of a 19" wheel and tire profile relative to the cars size. and adding lighter hardware would just be a bonus if it was worth shedding the weight so close to the center of the wheel. Regardless of what 19" wheel I ordered, they will be 3lbs lighter than stock 18's. The titanium bolts do look like artwork though.

If you want to reduce unsprung weight, you need to replace your Stoptech ST60/ST40 first with something like Performance Friction Z45/Z29 calipers and get lightweight 18''

If you're serious about weight reduction, lightweight wheels are a good place to start. With wheels you're talking about pounds not ounces per wheel and a signifcantly better performance return for your money. And who doesn't like a set of new wheels? Combined with good rubber, you will see a noticeable improvement in your car's all around handling.

I fully understand the desire for something unique, high-tech, and an easy mod at that. At the end of the day 6 ounces per wheel is nothing performance wise for your application. It comes down to what want with your car; performance, cosmetics......?

Well I already have some lightweight forged 19" wheels. I'm just wondering about any difference the bolts would make. I don't track this car, it's a street car. Not looking for the ultimate lightweight track package here, just any opinion on the bolts or if anyone is using them.

If you do it, be sure to read up on using anti-seize with titanium.

Not worth it, the weight you save isn't going to gain anything since you're so close to the center of rotation.

I have studs, and throwing wheels on/off the car is so much easier.

I guess I dont change my feels often enought to care. And I think all the stud kits out there dont look aesthetically pleasing. Much prefer the clean look of a hex bolt that sits inside of the bolt hole and not sticking out

My question to you is, how often is someone going to walk up to the car at a show and go "OMG you've got TITANIUM BOLTS?!"

Then divide that by about 1,000,000. That's about how often it'll be noticed that there are titanium lug bolts on the car. Plus it's not tinged purple so people will automatically assume that it's just plain jane bolts. And if it IS tinged purple, people will just assume that it's just plain jane bolts ANODIZED purple.

Then ask yourself...At the end of the day will you feel more empowered with titanium bolts, or will you care MORE that people will notice the titanium bolts. If you think you'll feel more empowered, by all means, get it.

Personally? I wouldn't. But that's because I've already got studs.

I dont buy part to impress people, instead because I want them. But since the weight savings are not really that substantial, I think I will pass. Thanks for the replies guys.

Actually people do notice Titanium bolts! I have BBS RS-GT with have Titanium fasteners (16 per wheels) and people always " Oh wow, those are the BBS with Titanium bolts"
Joking aside, I think Titanium bolts are cool but not worth the price (especially wheel bolts).
