wider wheels tires for 2007Z4 3.0si coupe
Hi All,
New to Z4 world. Need some advice. Just purchased a 2007 Z4 Coupe 3.0si with steptronic with 8 K miles – mint condition. The non M Z4 with steptronic choice is due to a number of complicated reasons. I am a HPDE Instructor with PCA and BMWCCA. Had a dedicated track car. Now need some new Z4 (non M) owner advice in two categories. #1 - What more aggressive wider 18" wheel and tire sizes will fit my non M Z4? Know the non Z4 wheel wells seem to be smaller? I ran CCW Classics 255F and 275R on my track car. What wider wheel sizes and tires can I run on a non M Z4?? (have 18" x 8 wheels 225F and 18x8.5 255R original run flats). So Mich Pilot Sports best tire model for street and occasional DE's? Maybe run 265”s all around on the 18” by 8 “ or wider wheels for the 265 all around . Can I get wider wheels to fit for 255F and 275R? Or is square up best for this car 265's all? Or what wider wheel sizes fit??? F and Rear staggered? What yee think? #2 – How does the non M Z4 with steptronic paddle shifter work for HPDE days on the track?? What modifications would be wise for moderate track use? Most of the time I am in the student's car so will not do a lot of track hours. If I can get better wheel tire package, do I need to add SS brake lines, more aggressive brake pads?, higher temp brake fluid? Other minor changes that would help? I would appreciate some opinions. Been so long since I played with wheel/tire fitments on a stock Z4. Assuming 18" diameter, you can run a 235/40 (on 8.5") up front but the increased height will probably cause some rubbing on the liner where the front bumper meets the fender. But 235/255 shouldn't be a problem, 265 is doable depending on the tire.
If you're looking to run square, 255 on a 9" with low 40 offset is the max you'll be able to go. Anything more aggressive might require negative camber and possibly a spacer. Rogue Engineering sells a fixed camber plates which should get you -1.7* up front. Regarding any mods for the track, no clue how the Step performs but I'd imagine it's similar to the E46. You can skip the SS lines but I would definitely get more aggressive track pads (I recommend PFC 08 or 11's) with some high temp brake fluids. I personally do a full flush with Motul 600 beginning of season and then bleed every other event. thanks for counsel
very helpful. Thanks
Looking at keeping a staggered set up for multiple drivers and back to basics for tires - looks like PSS will be OK. Do you think the PSS 265/35/18 will be ok in the rear on an Apex EC-7 9.5 wheel? looks like the PSS's size out at 255/35 is 25" dia and 9.5" wide 265/35 is 25.3' dia and 10.1" wide and will do some shopping for track brake pads and have some fresh Motul |

If you're going to stick with staggered, I would just keep to a 225/255. Not sure what's to be gained with 235/265 besides more expensive rubbers and potential rubbing. I ran a 255 on 9.5 and it was fine. And Michelin PSS is a great choice, and Conti DW's wouldn't be bad neither.
