9 Things to Know - E86 3.0si

Because I enjoy mine so much, this article on the 3.0SI coupe made me smile. While some points made are arguable (as is always the case), I'm in agreement with the writer's view. Figure there are others here that will enjoy the read.

Bang on article.

I disagree about the suspension, as a properly dialed in coil over setup is wonderful (and adjust your stiffness to your desire).

Shame they harped on the roadster. I'll give up the stiffness for top down motoring!

The 10th item should have been that the DSP stereo is hard to upgrade unless you're doing the whole system and the speaker options for the stock subs are limited.

Good article. My only quibble is that the roadster is already very stiff. So yes the coupe is better for the track. But for every day use, arguing over which is stiffer is like arguing whethe the Flash is faster than superman.

Agree with the article as well, though N52 tuning has come a long way since the motor was first introduced in 06.

That's true, but dollar for dollar and time invested it's still low on the list.

So many turbo alternatives where $300-600 software can net you 80hp easily, not 20-30 (with a header, an intake....)

Did they make the Coupe for one extra year outside of the US?

I think its a really bad article both from from an advisement point of view and of a journalistic point of view.
The thing with the advice they give: its very tainted by a commercially involved party.
People are smart enough to make their own mind up on what is a sound investment or not as different people have different budgets and goals.
And the journalistic part: they write a huge contradiction in 2 following sentences.
That makes it that this piece apparantly has the goal to fill a page with words and atrract viewers instead of informing the public.
So imho a piece of crap (note: that opinion has nothing to do with my view on the z4c)

Well yea....essentially this piece is a trickle request for viewers looking at the Z4M coupe piece that /Drive did.

My understanding is all Z4 production (regardless of sale in NA or elsewhere) was in SC. Production of the E85/E86 ended in late August of 2008.

The E89 wasn't announced until December of 2008. Not sure when production begain (early 2009?). The E89 was built in Germany.

afaik, all e85/e86 cars would be no later than the 2008 model year. I supposed that some left over stock may have been sold in an overseas market as a 2009 model. But the factory in SC didn't continue production for an extra year just for the foreign market.

You're probably right.
Writing a turd in desperate hope to get some views.
I like carthrottle, at least the video's they put out on youtube with the humor, but this is a journalistic turd.
The informative content is mediocre at best and heavily influenced by someone with commercial gains. (not that I dont like their diffs: I HAVE one!, but thats not the point)

Cool article which shows, imho, considerable insight - esp re not lowering the vehicle etc.

I especially liked the comment someone added: 'It’s BMWs finest looking car. I will fight anyone that says otherwise"

Although I love the lines of my roadster and wouldn't trade her, the coupe is a looker, there is no argument there.
