I'd jump on these mods if I had more $$$. Maybe when I leave the city I'll be a ballah like ROM3N

The standard is $100 to retune the ecu should the dealership need it back to stock. I spoke to the programmers and they said there is no way the dealership can detect the ecu has a performance tune on it.

A few hundred buck should not keep you from getting the most out of your engine.

I think for the money its a nice addition and a nice option. I think the lack of people willing to spend money on mods and worry about having there car out of commission for a few days are what keep many tuners from making products for small market like the Z4M cars. We should be embracing these companies not complaining. Remember these are $50k NA cars the performance mods are going to cost a few buck. The R&D that goes into projects like these take lots of sales just to break even on.
Amen brotha! We do a LOT of r&d and its heart breaking when we put a lot of hard work into something and then the product gets knocked off or copied. Are people making minimum wage designing these products? Should the products price reflect how much time was put into it? Those are all things people should consider. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned tuners not wanting to make things. I am very concerned about making products that I wont be able to sell at a fair price. There are many cars which I refuse to r&d or make products for based on what I see on the forums and how people bicker about pricing.

Laidback also made mention of an exhaust.... being that he is working so closely with you guys in all of your R&D is that a hint that there is perhaps an exhaust in the works? I would love to see a grouping of tune, scoops, exhaust for around $2000, and a gain of around 25 whp....
Possibly. If we were to make an exhaust system for this car and testing it the way RPi is known for, the exhaust would sell for around $1200.

No reason to go higher redline if the car is not making any more power. for example, one of my project cars stock redline is at 7200rpm. After extensive mods, my new redline is set at 6500rpm. Why? Because power starts to drop off and my car is making a crap load of tq on the bottom end.

100 is not bad I just dont see the need for the charge. Its good to hear that the dealer cannot detect it.

I think that if you have to reship the ECU to them and they need to reinstall it, than they should be able to charge a fee for services...

Would it be possible to throw in a one-time free retune? I doubt anyone would intentionally ask the dealer to re-program the ECU and erase the aftermarket ECU tune. If it happens, it's probably just the dealer does it without even asking and notifying the owners. I think it would make people more confident to purchase the ECU re-programming.

The ECUs need to be taken apart. Imagine a busy day (which in most cases is every day), and then an engineer has to stop, take apart the ECU and then program it. Its not as easy as plugging something into the actual ECU and then uploading a program into it. There is an actual set up process.

The one time free reflash is something that I am working on right now.

I guess I had to ask. Will you be offering a tune for the 3.0SI? Only reason I asked is because when I spoke to Dinan, they were doing the software for the M and said the ecu for the SI is very simaler. I would be interested in this as well. Thanks

I agree it takes time, but on the other hand If I am spending 1000$ on a ecu upgrade I dont think it is too much to ask for free ecu re-flashes in case the ecu gets reset by the dealer. At least a free one time re-flash would make me feel alot better about buying this ecu.

Just my 2 cents I had my E39 M5 custumed tuned by Powerchip and i had brought it to the dealer for some warranty work before and they didn't say anything about the ecu...

I have to agree and already talked to RPI about a one time free flash and Eloy told me he'll work on it

I am little by little convincing Eloy to make the RPI exhaust for the Z4MC since we got the Scoops, software but what better way to compliment the power gains but bad@$$ exhaust...

Nothing is set in stone so dont hold your breath as far as the exhaust goes. The amount of time testing/r&d, etc will reflect on how much our exhaust would cost. With that in mind, we have to see where the market is and where its heading. So........we are just playing with the idea and trying different things to see how it works. The stock exhaust is not restrictive by any means and its VERY hard to improve on the design, performance wise, on that stock muffler. The stock muffler is basically a straight pipe split into two at the muffler. If you look inside, you can see it. For the first sec 3 prototype, we went with a single pipe muffler delete. Below is the z4 with our sky/porsche 911tt exhaust tip.

Its just a prototype because we are trying to get this done this week. The production version would be equal size tips on each side. We wont be doing this tip anyways because it cost MUCH more to do staggered tips like this.
