Zagato Roadster Concept
Personally --> don't like it. The Zagato Coupe works better to my eye .. and I'm not sure I was mad about that either. http://wot.motortrend.com/bmw-zagato...ch-248887.html http://rumors.automobilemag.com/one-...ut-164011.html |

BMW should be embarrassed to put their badge on that thing...

The girl's pretty. That's pretty much it.
I'm OK with the looks of the car except for one glaring thing... WTF is with the buck tooth gap between the kidney grilles? Way too much Pontiac-look than BMW. I bet the car looks like ass with the top up. |

I Imagine the z4 got the same reaction when it was unveiled in 03
Here we are a decade later. It turns heads wherever it goes..looks like a brand new model. I just think people resist change....at first. |

I think it looks pretty good with the exception of the rear lights. Terrible.

Although we were a bit disappointed that we didn't get the Coupe, (We were notified by BMW NA that it was headed to Russia for another venue), we were very appreciative that the roadster made its world debut this past Friday at Legends of the Autobahn.
My take: When they first raised the door of the transporter, the car was jaw dropping although I'll attribute that some of that drop was partially caused by the hype that proceeded the unveiling. After the car was driven off and completely placed on pavement where we were able to walk around the car, it was still IMO, absolutely stunning with subtle design touches. After a few walk arounds, the car, to me, felt “normal” but normal in a very tasteful way considering it was turned loose to a designer to have it their way. The beautiful paint, perfect gaps, nice leather work, "Z" kidneys, Zagato sigs and the tail light rear section seemed to blend so well that it didn't appear as an obvious statement concept car, designed by a designer that was attempting to make his own statement that could have easily gone wrong. I'm not sure of the body lines when compared to the current Z but it didn't appear unique, perhaps the Zagato designers already admired it as it is. I've not really compared the current production Z's sheet metal to the Zagato and to be truthful, I don't really know the current sheet metal unlike some of you that own the current Z's. There were only a few of us around this discreet unloading area but a couple of the designers were present and I noticed that they were staring at me when it was first unloaded; I hope they saw the reaction that they were looking for. They didn't allow me to take pics at that moment due to some commercial agreements at least until show time the following day. Sorry, no pics from me since I was so busy working the show but I imagine that they'll start showing up on the internet within a few days since it was also displayed at Pebble on Sunday but ditto my reason for not being able to take pictures at that venue. To me, it is a beautiful car although after seeing it in person, I personally favor the Coupe, at least in pictures but I’ve always been one to favor the Z's Coupe versions. |

I do not know but I'll bet that if anyone from the company does know and shared their knowledge publicly, he or she would have trouble unlocking the door to their office the next day.
I just read Satch's broadcast via BMW CCA's email blast. http://www.bmwcca.org/roundel/article/4658 He states that the car was constructed or rather Zagatoized in 6 weeks, if so, given the span of time, I wouldn't think that the sheet metal could be altered much if at all from the current production version but again, I still feel that they, the designers, were focused on personalizing the Zagato theme to an already beautiful design. I mentioned to one of the gents accompanying the car, that we were required to provide an enclosed tent for the car at the Legends venue due to the use of some clay used in the construction of this concept car, exposing itself to the wetness of the Monterey weather, he only laughed and explained that there was no clay but there may be some glues that possibly needed more curing, (Emblems). We all came to the conclusion that the tent was for drama. |
