Same decision here. I got the M-Coupe. The timeless elegance of the shape, the exclusivity, the raw performance without the electronic gizmos, the seating/driving position and the price got me.
The M3 will perform marginally better than the M-Coupe at a track with longer straights - given the 3,650lb kerb weight and 295lb/ft of torque. Just get better tyres on the M-Coupe.

I'd go for the M coupe. You save 500 a month that you can do amazing and beautiful mods to the car. the new M3 is great and all, but a little too flashy for my liking imo.
Do you need the backseat? if so, get the M3. |

Sounds like you're deciding on either style or performance. Not that the m3 doesn't have style, it's just that the M Coupe looks more like a sports car.

You're right and this is Playboy's 2007 car of the year... Though, I don't really need the girls to be stuck to my windshield like bugs, but I wouldn't mind it either
what about leasetrader? I don't know if anyone's looked at this but I suspect if i just had to get out of a m coupe lease for the m3 that with such a low lease payment, it'd trade pretty quickly? My rep is going to runs some numbers for me and see what the out the door cost is, if it's super cheap - I'm going for it. If it's like $6,000 down $650/month - no deal.

I leased the M Coupe for 2 years with the idea of moving to M3 when out.
I called dealers to put deposit..none would do MSRP in LA, of the ones taking deposit. At LA auto show as I pulled in several comments were made on how cool my car was. At the BMW stand there was not even a M Coupe. I saw the M3 Coupe & Sedan. I dont like the read view of sedan at all and coupe is not that much better. While leaving I saw E46 M3 in parking lot and I really appreciate that car. I also came back to 3 guys and a girl looking at my car. They all asked when its coming out and why didnt BMW stand have it yet. This car can do sub 5 sec to 60 I dont know if I really need to do 4.5 sec (if thats what the new M3 promises. I also get almost 20 mpg. I traded a V8 Audi S4 that sucked gas like a pig (about 12MPG I was getting). I may buy this car after the two years is up. Alpine white with imola red interior is a great combo... |

The numbers are in...
$559/month for bare bones M coupe, 10,000miles/year, $6,000 due up front. $665/month for fully loaded, 15,000miles/year, $6,500 due up front. Now I asked what if I only pay taxes, tags, title up front... $780/month for fully loaded, 15,000miles/year, $4135 due up front. Then I asked what if I pay nothing up front... $852/month for fully loaded, 15,000miles/year. $0 due up front. I'm expecting the new M3 to come in at $1,000/month for loaded, 15,000m/y, and $5,000 up front (inc taxes). This doesn't seem like a deal at all, like Hawkeye is only putting down $1,700 and getting $750/month. Maybe I should just wait for the M3 because I'm not getting a bare bones and when I didn't put the $2,500 down it shot up $120/month which is a total of $4,320 over the term.

I'd do the Z4M (and choose your version). Esp. if you are keeping your E46M, it would be a good idea, since you can use your E46 as the "practical" car.

M Coupe - cheaper, more unique look, easily available
M3 - faster, better technology, get ready to pay to be one of the first IMO you can't go wrong with either. I would lease the M Coupe than trade up to the M3 when the lease is up. I'm planning to trade up to the new M3 when my lease is over or maybe a year before. Right now, it's impossible to find a new M3 for MSRP, at least in SoCal.
