Is this normal for the headlights?

When I turn on my low beams or parking lights, I hear sort of a grinding sound coming from the area under the hood around the headlights.

It also feels like the headlights are aimed too low (then again, the car is a lot lower than cars I normally drive). Could these be related?

Do your headlights auto-adjust when you turn the key to the on position? Not sure if all Z4s do this buy my M roadster and my old M3 went up and then down or something like that when first getting ready to start the car at night. I keep the headlights in auto mode. It kindof makes a strange noise when they adjust, but not sure if that is what you are talking about or what.

I just checked. It'll start out at a certain height, drop down a lower height, and then quickly come back up to that same height it started off from.

Yep, all that is normal. It's your headlights auto-aligning themselves.

I guess now the question is, how come I can't see squat at night? Even the halogens on my old car works better...

Yeah I find the low beams okay but not as crisp as my brother's S2000 or my mom's TL...then again they don't have bi-xenon and once they flip to high beams they have halogen.

I think the high beams on my Z4M are fantastic.
