Can anyone recommend a floor jack?

Need to buy a floor jack for my car. Can anyone recommend a moderately priced jack that fits under our cars? Thanks.

Michelin low profile jack.

They hit 50% off during sales and fall in around the $150 price range. Regular $300 I believe.

Solid jack and not those puny $30 ones that will kill youl

I got the Blue / Aluminum anodized racing jack from Costco... Good enough for what I need. $109

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...se=&lang=en-US

If you have lowered springs ( I have H&R's ) you'll need to drive it up on a couple pieces of 2 x 10 laid flat ( obviously ) first to get enough clearance to get the the jacking points.

Yes. This is a great jack. I use it too. No problems. Looks cool too.

The craftsman jacks from sears aren't anything great, but they do the job at a lower price. always worked fine for me.

I've got the 3.0si non-sport package ride height, though - no need to drive up on some 2x10s before jacking it up. Dunno if a craftsman will be low enough for an M.

Get the smaller sized jack stands as well, not the taller ones. I made that mistake and the jack doesn't quite get high enough to get the tall ones under the body at the lowest setting. So I had to go get a second set...

The Craftsman aluminium racing jack works well on the Z4M once you drive the front wheels onto 2" high 2x6s. My 2 ton has served me well over the years (about 6 years) and light enough for carrying in the trunk for track days.

I recently picked up the AC Hydraulics/ESCO DK13HLQ which is a high lift, low profile jack and this is brilliant for our cars as a floor jack. Not very portable though.

I've had a few Craftsman jacks over the years and they've all worked fine for me. The next time I need a new one it will most likely be a Craftsman.

thx for the contrarian opinion, I was surprised to read such poor reviews on the Sears website

I went to Costco a while ago to get one for those but they didn't have any. They had a lower profile one, less aluminum and it was under $100 so I just could past up the deal. It's been a great one and since it's a low profile no need for the the blocks

I have a Craftsman one from Sears (same one most of the guys on E90post picked up 2 years ago). Thinking of getting this one at Harbor Freight too, since it's only $80.

My brother has had a the all aluminum jack from Craftsman and had no issues for years. When it came time for me to need one I got the low profile one that was part steel part aluminum...looks pretty close to my brother but there are some differences. Anyway mine lasted MAYBE two years and started leaking all over the place and finally wouldn't lift the car.

It seems those that have no issues are good to go, but after seeing all the reviews online I am not sure I want to take my chances with another one.

VitaminT, were you using the floor jack to support the car while working on it, or where you resting the weight on a couple of jack stands after using the floor jack only to lift the car?

I've heard the former can do some damage to the hydraulics over time, which could potentially explain the leaking oil you mentioned.

I like the aluminum jacks, esp the Craftsman one, but they are damn expensive. I guess what I want is a good floor jack for the money and one that won't break the following year

I just use it to get the car in the air and then have two larger Craftsman professional jackstands and two smaller AutoZone ones. Just pick the size depending on how high I need it off the ground.

I bought one of these a few years ago at the local Sam's Club for $75, it is the jack they use in the auto service area at that store. Solid and for the price cannot be beat.

$75? Wow, nice price, too bad I don't belong to Sam's Club (or Costco for that matter)
