you should ask your friend where he bought the fabric. every google search I do brings actual carbon fiber cloth, definitely not what I'm looking for but makes finding it via search engine rather difficult.

Yes, 3m #77 its by far the best spray glue out there. I've used it to carpet MDF subwoofer boxes before. Its well known in the car audio industry. This is a perfect app for it too. Just spray it on, not too light, not too heavy, wait just a little bit to let it tack up, then affix.
