Unexpected Upshifts
Has anyone else had this problem with their Z4 automatic w/ paddle shifters? My '06 3.0i, when I'm driving around in manual/sport mode using the paddle shifters, will sometime upshift ON ITS OWN from 2nd to 3rd, or from 3rd to 4th. It also will occassionally downshift to 1st when coming to a stop (rather than stopping at 2nd), again ON ITS OWN. Its at the dealer right now to see if they can figure out what's going on, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else had ever had this happen?

I don't know about the Zed but when I drove a 3 series it did this and it was to "protect" the engine. It would upshift on it's own if I was cruising at a higher RPM when in the shiftronic (or whatever they call it) mode.
Perhaps someone that has one could tell you if it is normal on the zed or not though..

If you don't put the gear selector into "S" mode the car assumes you're only changing gears yourself temporarily and will start shifting for you again if you don't hit the paddle for a certain amount of time.
