Suspension noise possibly?

Has anyone ever had a noise come from the rear of the car while making a slow sharp turn? It almost sounds like a grinding noise but I can't really describe the sound.

You can hear it at :10 of the track. Pokey said it sounds like a duck. Hah!

Yup duck.

Is it repetitive if you were to drive slowly in circles either direction?

It is repetitive but it doesn't happen all the time. Like it actually takes me a couple times to recreate the sound. I was surprised that I was even able to get a recording of the sound.

But it does happen mostly in a sharp turn or circle at low speed.

Yeah its one of those problems that makes you look insane. You always hear it but can't recreate the problem for the mechanic. Haha

I can't hear it because of the firewall at work, but I am willing to take a wild @ss guess that it's the diff fluid. You need Castrol SAJ+F for the ///M Diff. The friction modifier (the +F) is suppose to be designed for mechanical LSDs to keep it quiet.

Thanks Hack. Bought some Red Line Diff Fluid. I'm usually a stickler for sticking with BMW OEM stuff but not when it's 48 dollars per .5 liter. I looked at some forum posts on here and seemed like everyone was doing fine with redline and it has the friction modifiers that should help with my problem.

Hopefully going to get some help to change out the fluid this weekend as well as the seal. Anyone every done the seal before?

I took the car to the shop last week. They checked the fluid and everything. Everything was fine. Fluid looked good and wasn't low. Anything else to check? Or should I just have them change out the fluid even if it looks good?

Its hard to tell without being in the car. I would guess rubbing exhaust based on the pitch.

Same here. Usually that sound occurs twice...but only when the car has been sitting for a long time. After a few minutes when the drivetrain is "warmed up"...it goes away. The car is put away for the winter, but I am going to have the differential fluid checked anyhow in the Spring.
