How about a winning lottery ticket? Those are only $1... I'd say those are rare as well.

I'm crossposting this from Bimmerfest:
I'm trying to figure out the total number of *non-M* Z4 coupes produced (since their run will be ending soon as well). Using the inaccurate method of plugging VIN numbers into the RealOEM web site I find that 3.0si Coupes start with a VIN of: LV30000 with a build date of 10/2005 The realOEM site runs out of gas at a build date of 10/2006 with a VIN of LV31992, but I know from first hand experience that a Coupe with a build date of 1/2007 has a VIN of LV34xxx. If we guess that BMW likes to keep numbers contiguous across years that would make for slightly more than 4000 3.0si coupes produced as of a year ago (though the doubling of total number produced with the jump from LV31992 to 34xxx in 3 months seems a bit unlikely). If anyone has a late 2007 or early 2008 production date 3.0si coupe, would you mind letting me know the VIN so we can better estimate total production. It seems that while the si coupes won't be quite as rare as the M's, they certainly won't be very common either. |

Read post#22 and get back to me. Your facts about what is more rare is off and you really don't understand what the word even means....

While these cars do meet the demand BMW might have hoped, they are indeed rare compared to other BMW models and other manufactures special models, For instance in November 2004 the 100'000 BMW Z4 was produced, So to estimate looking at 2007's yearly 20'000 Z4 models made there would be 60'000 made after Nov 04? (got the number from Ricks earlier post) http://bmwusfactory.com/media_center/weekly_production/ Lets call it 150'000 to be fair, So (and thats worldwide production) lets then assume only half of those were actually USA models so 75'000 Z4's made, less than 2000 Z4M's made I'd call that a rare car, even in BMW standards, I said nothing about valuable, Hopefully for us M owners it holds a decent value when production stops and the final numbers are released,

the definition of rare we are using here is:
"seldom occurring or found" but at the same time, to rc'Z's benefit, rare is also defined as: marked by unusual quality, merit, or appeal; superlative or extreme of its kind

He posted about it at the time - BMW has decided to stop releasing numbers for individual models, and are just lumping all the cars together - roadster and coupes. It's a bummer, all right - I was looking forward to having specific numbers of the model run when it wrapped.

Actually, this is the first time I've seen someone make the mistake in this direction. Usually, it's someone with a dilapidated heap insisting it's valuable because there are only a few.

1. If cars are components, then for ever 60,000+ Camrys you see on the road you might see an Mcoupe...RARE 2. The Mcoupe definately has an unusual quality or appeal and who will argue that the car is not distinct or extreme of its kind? 3. Lastly, the car IS uncommon and seldom occuring because there is so few produced. Gosh, I swear!

Personally, I've seen at least 2 Ford GTs, at least half a dozen Lamborghinis, a handful of Aston Martins, a few 911s, and even a couple of E36 coupes on the street in the last 2 years, but I have never seen an M coupe in the flesh outside of a dealer's lot.
The M coupe is not as prestigious or exclusive as a Ferrari, but it's pretty damn rare. Dammit, now I'm thinking about buying one again. |

To be honest, I think the uncommon sight of another is my favorite part of owning the car. I've never seen another one on the road. Period.
People stare at it like it's Jimmy Hoffa on a unicycle. Kind of amusing.

I figured it was rare when the service tech called the service manager to come and look at my car...they had never seen one. No $hi7! The dealer I bought my car from is about an hour away and my local dealer could not get one without special order...That is rare to me

I get a ton of stares and looks, some people I have shown the car think its a totally different car to the Z4, To date I have seen 2 other Z4M's on the road (none as shiny as mine lol) I have actually seen more Coupes than Roadsters on the road, at dealers I have only seen 3 for sale, and thats at 2 different dealers, One of which is the one I own now
