But there are well over 100 of them! If you work for NASA they aren't very rare.

I got some more info about the non-M coupes from Ron Stygar over at Bimmerfest.

Apparently the LV30000-32000 are European 3.0si coupes while the LV34xxx and LG19xxx are US coupes. According to Ron the LV34 series is up to 700 or so - which would make sense since I have LV344xx with a 01/07 build date. I'm not sure how many LGxxx have been built, but if anyone with a 2008 coupe wants to chime in maybe we can get a better idea.

In any case, looking at these numbers it seems that the 3.0si coupes may be just about as rare (or perhaps I should use "scarce" to avoid the controversy of this thread) as the M's.

I'll go along with "they have low production numbers". There may be 100 of the 7 series, but only a hand full will be in this country and therefore: RARE!-

Actually all 100 of the ones I have heard about are in Texas. They are testing them at NASA because they can fuel with the same fuel as the rocket ships (liquid hydrogen)

edit: I was thinking I read about Hydrogen powered 5 series though.... I don't think they would make hydrogen cars on two different models this far in advance... ?

The Spartansburg production figures list 5,749 coupe units built in 2007 and 647 YTD in 2008. Anyone know how many were built in 2006?

No idea what the split between M and non-M, but according to US sales figures only about 30% more non-Ms are sold.

Thanks for the link. Presumably this 5749 includes the 1187 M-Coupes produced for the US market in 2007 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=263588 along with the 2000 or so LV30000-LV32000 non-M's produced for the Euro market. That plus 400ish LV34xxx's produced in 2007 adds up to around 3600, so if the remaining 2100 were split between the M-Coupes for the Euro market and the LG19XXX series of non-Ms then it all adds up.

So the short answer is we still don't have a number on non-M coupes, but it's clearly not a whole lot more than the M's.

Production

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M_Coupe

This has some numbers for the coupes and considering they only made 350 M coupes in 2006, I would think that is fairly rare! Does anyone know where you can find the production numbers of specific colors?

I hate to even post about this because when the talk turns to numbers you're worse than a pit-bull with a frisbee, Dammittt, but in the November 2008 issue of BMW Car, page 9, they quote total Z4M production as 5070 roadsters as 4275 coupes. That number is also quoted by Ron Stygar, and he references a press release from BMW themselves about M Division sales.

Quote:
The convincing performance of BMW M GmbH is rounded off this year by the final spurt of the BMW Z4 M Roadster and BMW Z4 M Coupe, the production cycle of which ended in August 2008. 5,070 Roadsters and 4,275 Coupes stand in the balance of this extraordinary sports car, the last BMW M models featuring the legendary six-cylinder in-line engine with 252 kW/343 bhp under the bonnet. This engine was awarded the title of "International Engine of the Year" in its class not less than six times. The successor is already secured as demonstrated by this year's success of the new V8 power unit in this competition.
Ron's numbers also quote 1815 M Coupes and 3042 M Roadsters sold in North America.

4,500 vehicles.

Thank you for your interest in BMW Manufacturing Co.
