Z4M folks - Tires

What tires are you running and any suggestions to replace the stock conti's?

I am sure this has been discussed previously, but new tires are always coming out so I figure a new thread couldn't hurt.

Thanks!

This is a purely speculative thread with only wild ideas thrown about unless you tell us how you drive the car and what you plan on doing with the car (track, autocross, etc).

PS2's
Toyo T1r's
Pirelli Pzero Nero
Nitto Invos
Yokohama S Drive
Contisport 3's
Goodyear F1 Asymmetric

My list is based on the lightest/best performing tires on the market. PS2's being the lightest and the goodyears and conti's being the heaviest on the list. I would go with any of these tires.

thanks for the comments thus far.

I am without a doubt going to use them for autox and maybe track time. I'd like something that is good performance but isn't ridiculous in the price department. Ps2's have been the standard of most hardcore E36 M3 members I use to hang with... but for large sizes they get pricey pretty quick. That and I will be running two sets of wheels/tires so I am not trying to break the bank on just one set.

What are your experience in either auto-cross and track? What class do you plan on running with and what organization?

Only reason I ask, is depending on how competitive you want to be and what class you run in, your tire choices MAY be limited.

General Exclaim UHP 245/35/19 front 275/30/19 rear. Great price and with less than 500 miles a pretty great tire. Major plus is that it's produced by Conti. THis tire has been great in both the dry and rainy conditions.

That's a good tire, but it will get pretty noisy in another 2K miles. I also notice that these tires reach their handling limits much quicker than most others. The same turns I would take with the Conti's at 60mph-70mph...I can only take at about 50mph or less before the tires start losing grip.

They are a good daily driver tire, but don't expect any performance improvements with them. If anything, overall performance will decline but tread life will be better than most performance tires.

For a 255/40R18 The Conti is 27lbs and the PS2 is 25lbs....according to TireRack.com.

While that isn't as much as I thought it would be, there is a big difference between PS2s and say a Falken Azenis RT615.

PS2s are the best, and yeah, I've only got them on my stock 18s to 1) save a bit on the price and 2) better ride and handling.

PS2 are not as good as far as grip or turn-in as the Bridgestone RE11 or Yokohama AD08 (or their predecessors, RE01R and AD07). PS2 does have better treadwear though.

I ran Advan Sport on my old G35 coupe. It's a good tire, probably not quite as good as a PS2 for grip but it has a stiff sidewall and good turn-in. Definitely way better than the CSC1.

I've just ordered Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions

I will use them for a few Track Days, plus regular daily driving.

I just went from PS2s to Yoko SDrives about 1 month ago. The PS2S were great while they lasted but I with the wet wheather we have around here, I was a little less than glowing about non-sunny day performance. Yokos are close in the dry, better in the wet wheather and much cheaper. I really do like my S Drives a ton. I would buy them again.

Love the bridgestone RE050's..but they are some of the heaviest tires on the market. About 4-5 lbs more than PS2's in similar sizes..
