Would it be better for me to have the EGT bung welded in the section one of the euro header?
thats cool. didnt know jack made the section 1 for our cars. i have heard of many rave reviews of his products.

how much is jack's section 1?

in regards to the egt:
looking at the links above, it shouldnt be an issue locating the actual bung and welding it to jack's piece.

if you look at it this way, you are going to have to do it, why not make it easier and relocate it to section 1 instead of trying to find clearance with the headers.

I will verify that understands the E46 and E85 section 1's are different when I order tomorrow. Good point, It looks like everyone is having luck with the EGT relocated to section 1.

Jack offers two options

1) $869 shipped for the pipes w/200 CPSI Magnaflow cats and resonators

2) $769 with just 200 CPSI Magnaflow cats

I think I am going to go with option 1. My damn RPI's are just to loud.

Have the CPI section 1's gotten good reviews?

I think I am going to start lengthening the extra 02 sensors I got with the headers.

Oh and with the money saved (about $500) from buying Supersprints and adding the cats myself, I may buy a UUC shifter or possibly save for the lightweight flywheel/clutch combo. My brothers E46 M3 had a UUC flywheel/clutch with Evosport headers, that things was super fun and sounded amazing with his Dixxis exhaust.

Ahh man... The bug bit hard! I ended up ordering the Supersprint system this morning. Turns out Jack didn't have the exact dimensions for the Z4M section 1. But he gave me a great deal on the SS Section 1, beat the price of everyone else. Should be here in about 10 days, coming directly from Italy.

Also considering adding some resonators. The RPI's are some damn loud. To many decisions.

MADNESS.

So as I continue on my journey to make a 100% reversible install of the Euro headers w/ custom cat section 1 I decided to start looking into the EGT/oxygen sensors.

I found a guy with a crashed E46 330, for $30 he let me cut off all 8 (4 mating) oxygen sensor connectors. If I solder the wires of the connectors (1 male 1 female), I have my self a plug and play harness which requires no cutting of the factory O2 sensors.

I also purchased some female connectors from a crashed 1995 740il, I actually thought these wouldn't work at first. But it turns out that the Z4M unlike the E46 M3 uses three different style of oxygen sensor connectors. Since I only had the female connector for the 7 series, I had to buy the male connector (I had to buy a new 02 sensor from a 740).

Here is a little cross reference:

Bank 1, post-cat O2 sensor: Uses an OBD-1 E38 &40iL male/female connector
Bank 2, post-cat O2 sensor: Uses an OBD-2 E46, E38, ETC style male/female connector
Bank 1/2, pre-cat O2 sensor uses a completely different style of connector (doesn't matter, these sensors does not need to be extended)

EGT Sensor (only 1): Uses any modern 1992 and male/female BMW brake sensor connector

I plan on writing a full procedure for installing the Euro cats along with whats needed to avoid welding original section 1/cutting & soldering wires. Yes I am an anal bastard.

Thanks for the write up as I am in the process of shopping for Z4M header.
I want to get one that is closest to plug and play.

From reading various posts, my understanding is the stock has 5 bungs connections:
1) EGT
2) Bank 1 - pre-cat O2
3) Bank 1- post-cat O2
4) Bank 2 - pre-cat O2
5) Bank 2 - post-cat O2

Modifications are made because either the new header does not provide enough holes for those 5 bungs OR they are located incorrectly causing interference.

It looks like from picture, this Tuner Supersprint header has all the correct placement for those 5 bungs and will be direct plug and play, plus does not trip CEL.
Is my understanding correct?

Just having the bungs does not help.
Without a CAT the sensors will not read correctly & will throw codes.

As said above, you need cats (or a tune) or it will throw a code. If you have it tuned by evolve like many of us now do, you wont get any codes so long as your o2s are connected.

Good to see another M in Texas!!

S2000.... are you planning on replacing the headers your self?.... I'm from Austin and for some pizza and a beer I can hold the flash light for you.

I changed my motor bracket bolts, Motor mounts and headers at the same time and boy that was a pain below the lower back .

However, I enjoy doing all these things to my Z4M on the weekends and I take my time and do it right. I'm north west of Austin.... let me know!

I need to make a trip down to meet all you Austin folk. I enjoy wrenching on my Z4M as well. Installed my SS v2 Headers and wouldn't mind lending a hand for some pizza/beer if I'm available that weekend.

Very much looking forward to a detailed, complete write-up and install with pictures.. I think everyone with a Z4M needs to do this in order to get performance to where it should be for this quality of car.

Thanks for your contributions guys!

Dropping the cats/pipes of at CPR Fabrication tomorrow. I am going to have the flange welded onto the cat and possibly have the cats slip fit onto the pipes, they will be clamped into place with a 304SS T-bolt clamp. I will also have CPR weld the SS bungs onto the cats. Hopefully the lead time isn't to long.

I dropped the pipes off at CPR. Should be done sometime this week. I decided to start dismantling my exhaust yesterday. I tool some photos, but I didn't take as many as I would like due to the 90 degree weather.

Once I removed the headers, I found something disturbing. One of the bolts on the motor mount brackets was almost completely backed out. WTF. I don't understand how this could of happened, I don't ever see a car leaving the factory that way.

The only thing I can can come up with is the mechanic that did the service 2 forgot to tighten the bolt. Reason being is the service report stated he removed the headers to reach the CPV valve.

Advice? Call the dealer?

I will post better pics of the components and the re-assembly. Hopefully it cools off.

Found the same when I changed my headers. Read up on the motor mount bolts. Mine had 5000 miles on it and one bolt was backed out about 1/4".
I already had the motorsports bolts and nord locks in hand for the job though!
