Tranny Clickin

03 2.5i, 5spd
The last couple of days my 2nd gear has started making a click sound that sounds like what youd make with your mouth when you go TSK. Its pretty loud, but doesnt sound like its coming from the gearbox.

It only happens when leaving 2nd gear going to 3rd (a lot). It makes no sound going into 2nd, or going from 2nd to neutral/1st if I baby it straight up. But if i go to the right, towards 3rd, it clicks.

Any ideas? Its driving me insane.

I'd say 3rd gear synchro or a cog maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was thinking it could be a synchro problem, but I dont know too much about how they work. It doesnt click going into 3rd gear, just coming out of 2nd. The sound sounds VERY local, almost at the boot. Definitely not coming from below the car....

Im thinking it could be a shift lever bearing? Does anyone know if this can be accessed from inside the car?

Well if it's coming from the boot then it's definitely something with the gear lever assembly. You threw me off by saying it's coming from the back or what not. Given how fragile those things are and how much free-play accumulates over time, I'd say that something's just worn out or broken.
