Ferrari F430 at CCA Driver School

Had a blast this past weekend doing another drive school, this time with the NJ CCA at Summit Point. Aside from Bimmers it's pretty common to see P-cars, Vettes and Miatas... but a F430 Scud?? Needless to say everyone was excited to see it on track.

Last session of the day is always the hairiest since everyone's pretty tired. Was neck and neck with this e36 M3 all day, finally got the point after he came in too hot at turn 5 and his back end comes out, luckily he was able to save it but I'm sure it rattled his nerves. Few laps later we get the black flag b/c the LSB e46 understeers in turn 1 after the long straight and goes off track.

One thing I have to remind myself is is stop downshifting 5->4->3 and go straight into 3rd.

Oh yea for those wondering how the GoPro compares to the Contour... first one was ContourHD, 720p and has the default field of view of 179 degrees. 2nd video is the GoPro HD (original) in r5 (1080p, fov of 129 degrees iirc), with spot metering. Both are 30fps but I believe resolution doesn't matter since YT only shows 720p anyway.

And here's a nice little screenshot from Harry's Lap Timer

edit
PS: changed my name temporarily (from Dubbedown) just for kicks not realizing I have to wait 90 days to go back. Could've swore Villa changed his 6x in the past 3 weeks. Oh wells...

6 weeks to change it back? Maybe they put in a longer waiting period between changes after someone--ahem--changed theirs a bit too frequently.

Will have to wait to see these until tonight since it's a PITA on the old phone I have. Great that we have a comparison to look at between two camera types, and it's always fun watching your driving.

RE: last session of the day, yup, I skip that one if I'm tired. The experience of the E36 and E46 just reinforces my "policy": when I'm tired, it's time to rest up a little bit more, then drive home. Also, it goes to show how incredible the pros are (ALMS, etc.), they're out there all day in very long sessions. Pretty amazing stuff.

I agree, last session is tough... especially if you know you have a long drive home. But I rarely skip because it's usually the emptiest session as well, so I can get more laps in and work on consistency. Not to mention, track days aren't cheap and I want to get my money's worth =)

All good points. Some of the most fun I've had has been in the last session as well, because it is emptier, and it's easier to work on consistency, or even to try an alternate line (e.g. slightly later apex, etc.). If I can find the time and work my schedule, lower attendance at weekday events can be great as well for practicing being consistent (or working on improving technique), which is difficult to do in heavy traffic.

Ha, thanks man! Ever since I started doing these events I have a bigger appreciation for the skill involved. It seems like there's an infinite amount to learn and seems like I've only covered 2%.

PS: How about one pulling into the pits? =P

You're doing better than I am, I'm at like 1%!

And the more I learn, the more I know that I don't know!

But it's a hell of a lot of fun isn't it?

Edit: Finally got to watch the videos. Looks like a fun track to drive, hand inputs look smooth too. Nice!
